E. MEYER.
STAND FOR CLEANING WINDGWS. No. 386,927.' Patented July 31, 1888.
.M "i mb 3 ATTORNEY,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK MEYER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
STAND FOR CLEANING WINDOWS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 386,927, dated July 31, 1888.
Application tiled August 31, 1886.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stands. for Cleaning Windows, Ste.; and I do hereby declare the following to beafull, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to providea safe and adjustable stand or platform for support in cleaning windows or doing similar work requiring a raised platform; and it consists in the stand or platform hereinafter shown and described.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvement as applied toa window. Fig. 2 is afront View of one of the adjustable legs of the stand. Fig. 3 is a side view of an adjustable leg and its fastening devices. Fig. 4 represents a side view of a modified form of the ad justable leg and fastenings, and Fig. 5 is a view of the under side of the top part of the stand.
A is the top part of astand or table having four tlxed legs, B.
C C are adjustable legs having in their center an opening, ar, running nearly their entire length, as shown in Fig. 2, and are secured to the fixed legs B by means of nntsd d and screw e, which passes through the opening w. The legs C C are thus adjustable and can be raised or lowered and secured at any height by means of the nuts and screw. The front legs of the stand, consisting of the xed parts B and the said adjustable parts C C, can thus be shortened or lengthened at pleasure and the stand be made to fit any height of window.
My device furnishes a simple, firm, and secure support, and one easily adapted and adjusted to windows and' other places of different heights.
Serial No. 212,290. (No model.)
Fig. 5 shows a device for further steadying the stand and preventing side motion. By turning the lever m, pivoted at a, in the direction of the arrow o the arms ss are thrown ont against the sides of the window and hold the stand firmly in place.
Fig. 4 represents a modification of the adjustable leg and its fastenening devices. The adjustable (C) and the fixed (B) parts of the leg are here represented as being round. An iron or other suitable band, i, is fastened to the fixed part of the leg B, then encircles the adjustable leg C and passes through an eye in the lever H. The curved part of thelever below the eye is so curved that as the lever is lowered toward the position shown by the dotted lines the distance from the eye to the point on the curved surface of the lever next to the adjustable leg C becomes greater and greater. Vhen the lever is thus lowered, the adjustable leg C is firmly caught and held between the fixed leg B and the lever-head, and the greater the weight on the table the stronger and rmer will this hold become.
It is evident that, if desired, adjustable legs could also be applied to the two back legs of the table in the same manner as to the front legs, as above described.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a stand for cleaning windows, the table A and fixed legs B thereof, in combination, with the legs C,adjustable on legs B, the lever m, fulcrumed underneath said table, and the bracing and steadying armss s,connected with said lever and operating to brace the stand in a window-frame, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
FREDERICK MEYER.
