TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented June 11, 1907'.
A licati fil d Tune 15, 1905. Serial No. 265,310.
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY HowARD LEVY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Table, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to improvements in tables for use in manicuring operations or for the use of chiropodists, the object being to provide a table, on the side opposite to the operator, with a rocking rest for the arm or leg of a person being operated upon, thus not only relieving the person from tiresome annoyance, but making the work more convenient for the operator.
I will describe a table embodying my invention, and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the table embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a section on theiline xac of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan of the rest.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the table top supported on legs 2, and extended lengthwise along one edge of the table top is a rest consisting of a plate or bar 3 of any suitable material, such, for instance, as metal, wood, or the like. This plate or bar is transversely curved so as to present no sharp edges to a person's arm or leg. The rest is mounted to swing on arms 4 extending upwardly from the table top, the upper ends of these arms being connected by a cross bar 5 which extends loosely through perforations in plates 6 secured to the under side of the rest.
Surrounding the rod 5 at its ends are coiled springs 7, the inner ends of which engage against the under side of the bar or plate 3, and the outer ends have connection with the arms 4. It will be noted that the inner ends 8 of these springs extend in opposite directions or, in other words, engage with thebar or plate at opposite sides of the rod 5. Obviously, these springs will permit of a yielding rocking motion of the rest bar or plate. teThe use of the table is quite obvious; that is, the person being operated upon will sit at the side of the table to which the rest is attached, and place an arm on said rest, While the operator, of course, sits at the opposite side of the table.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,-
1. The combination with a table, of a rest of the character described, comprising arms secured to the table and curved upwardly over one edge of the table, a cross bar connecting the upper ends of the arms, a transversely curved plate provided on its under side with downwardly projecting members having openings through which the said cross bar loosely passes, and springs coiled on the cross bar and having their ends engaging the under side of the plate and the arms.
2. A rest of the character described, comprising curved arms provided with means whereby they may be secured to a table and connected by a cross bar, a transversely curved plate provided on its under side with depending plates having openings therein through which the said bar loosely passes, and springs coiled on the cross bar and having their ends engaging the under side of the curved plate and the said arms.
3. A rest of the character described, comprising curved arms connected at one end by a cross bar and adapted to have their other ends secured to a table, a rest bar having a curved upper face and pivotally mounted on the cross bar of the arms, and coiled springs surrounding the said cross bar and having their ends engaging the rest bar and arms.
In testimony whereof I have signed, my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
