Be it known that I, ARTHUR W. OLDHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ada, in the county of Hardin and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Im-j, provements in Sandpaper-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to sandpaper holders and an object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device of this character which will hold the sandpaper tightly across the operative face thereof without the use of nails, similar fastening devices or expensive clamping members.

A further object of the invention is tov provide a holder of this character having a handle so constructed that it may be folded flat upon the base or body or held at right angles thereto when necessary.

Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description if read in connection with the accompanying drawings which form a part of this applica tion and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view. Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 represents the body of the device which preferably consists of a fiat light board having longitudinal grooves 2 extending throughout the length of its side edges and secured to the ends the bearing plates 3 centrally apertured as shown at 4 to receive the inwardly turned pimples or bearing ends 5 of the clamping members 6. These clamping members are preferably constructed of spring wire of the proper gage which has been treaded. to prevent corrosion or rust and which will bend as shown to produce a substantially U-shaped outline, the legs 7 of which having the inwardly extending terminals 5 upon which the members are pivoted, the terminals being inserted through the apertures 4 in the plates 3 and into holes formed in the wood as will be readily understood. The connecting portion of the member 6 between the legs 7 is bent inwardly to form a groove engaging portion 8 intermediate the length of which is formed a handle loop 9 by which these members may be placed in the grooves or removed therefrom as desired. Hinged to the upper side of the body is a handle 11 and pivoted to that side of the handle opposite from the hinges 12 is a spring actuated locking dog 13 arranged to engage the shoulder 14 formed by the under cut socket 15 produced in the base. This locking dog effectively holds the ban dle at right angles to the body when engaged with the shoulder and may be readily released from said shoulder to permit the handle to be folded on to the body as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1.

With the legs 7 of the clamping members engaged between the spaced projections 10 the sandpaper may be placed over the operative face of the body and folded over the side edges thereof. The clamping members may then be sprung into position which causes the sandpaper lapping over the edges of the body to be bound within the grooves 2.

What is claimed is 1. A sandpaper holder comprising a flat.

body having grooves in its side edges, means for clamping the paper within the grooves,

A sandpaper holder comprising a flat body having grooves in its side edges, apertured plates carried by the ends of-the body, said plates having spaced projections, U- shaped spring clamping members having inwardly turned terminals engaging the apertures in said plates, the legs of the clamping members arranged to engage between said bers in inoperative position, said clamping members attached to secure the paper within the grooves and a foldable handle carried by the body.

A sandpaper holder comprising a fiat body having grooves in its side edges, apertured plates carried by the ends of the body, said plates having spaced projections, U- shaped spring clamping members having inwardly turned terminals engaging the apertures in said plates, the legs of the clamping members arranged to engage between said projections for holding the clamping members in inoperative position, said clamplng members attached to secure the paper within the grooves, a foldable handle carried 1.
