Description
rTEE STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JOSHUA TODD, OE WEBSTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOE TO HlMsELE AND WILLIAM E. BANOEOET, OE SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MCP-HEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,512, dated J une 27, 1871.
To all lwhom it may concern.' Be it known that I, JOSHUA Tomnof Webster, in the county ofMonroe and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful In'lprovement in Mop-Heads, of which the following is a specication Y This invention consists of a mop-head composed. ofa fixed cross-head, a hinged clamp, and a piv- Oted lever, constructed, arranged, and operating as'l'lereinafter described. i
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a View of the mophead with the parts closed; Fig. 2, a View ofthe same open.
Arepresents the handle; B, the cross-head; C, the clamp," and D,the lever. The clamp is formed With a bend, a, at each end, one of which is pivoted to the end of the cross-head, While the other is pivot-ed to the lever. The latter is made of elbow-form, so that when the part b is turned up against the handle to close the clamp, as in Fig. 1, a hinged or pivoted loop, E, may turn down over it to retain it in place. The shank of the lever rest-s in a fork, c, of the crossllead, which keeps the clamp in position in use. The inner edges of both the cross-head and clamp are provided With points d d, which, shutting together, hold the rags or mop material in place. The cla-W orfork o, by embracing the base of the lever, is
also of importance.l `The whole may be made of cast-iron, and is, therefore, very cheap.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, as a new article of manufacture,` is
The mop-head composed of. the cross-piece B, clamp C, elbow-lever D, and loop E, arranged as described, and operating in the manner and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 9th day of March, 1871.
` JOSHUA TODD. Vitnesses l.. F. OsGoOD, C. N. WOODWARD.
