Description
F. SAYLES.
DISINFECTANT HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 29, 1915.
Patented Dec. 7, 1915.
FREDERICK SAYLES, OF LONGMONT, COLORADO.
DISINFECTANT-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 7, 1915.
Application filed May 29, 1915. Serial No. 31,247.
1 b all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, FREDERICK SAYLEs', a citizen of the United States, residing at Longmont, in the county of Boulder and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Disinfectant-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved disinfectant holder for the mouth piece of a telephone, and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character which may be readily applied to the mouth piece of the ordinary telephone without necessitating any changes whatever in the construction thereof or requiring resort to the services of an electrician or mechanic.
It is another object of the invention to provide a disinfectant holder having means for furnishing a continuous supply of disinfecting or sterilizing vapor to the interior of the mouth piece, thus obviating the transmission of disease in the use of the telephone by the general public.
The invention has for another general object to improve and simplify the construction of devices of the above character, whereby the same may be produced at a minimum manufacturing cost and readily obtained and applied by the individual subscriber.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination, and arrange ment of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a pgspective view showing my improved disinfectant holder applied to the transmitter of a telephone; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
' Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates the body of the holder which may be of cylindrical or polygonal form and preferably consists of two sections which are hermetically sealed together or otherwise permanently connected.
In the manufacture of the device, raw cotton or other material having high absorbent qualities, indicated at 6, is placed within the holder and the body of the holder is provided upon its peripheral wall with an" outwardly projecting nipple 7 through which a liquid disinfectant may be poured upon the cotton or other absorbent. A suit- To the body of the holder 5, adjacent to its periphery and preferably at the upper portion thereof immediately beneath the mouth piece T, one end of the tube 12 is se- 7 cured, said tube projecting outwardly and being bent or returned upon itself and having an upwardly inclined end portion 14, the open end of the tube being disposed contiguous to the perforated inner end wall of the transmitter mouth piece.
In the operation of the device, after attaching the holder in the manner above described, it will be apparent that the disinfectant vapor with which the absorbent material contained in the holder is saturated, willescape from the open end of the tube 12 into the transmitter mouth piece, and thus kill or destroy any disease germs which may have collected therein. It will, therefore, be seen that I have produced a very simple and effective device which will minimize liability of the transmission of disease from the use of telephones by the general public. V
The device may be maintained in effective condition by supplying the disinfectant to the container or holder at intervals of three or four months. It is, of course, apparent that the holder may be made of any desired size or capacity and that two or more vaper tubes can also be provided, if desired.
The device, as a whole, is exceedingly simple in its construction, highly serviceable and convenient in practical use, and
can be retailed at a low price so that the device may be obtained and applied by the .individual subscriber.
- While I have shown and described the preferred construction and arrangement of "the several parts of the device, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of considerable modification therein, and I,
therefore, reserve the privilege of resorting to all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied Within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
5 Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is The combination with a telephone transmitter having a removable threaded mouth piece, of a disinfectant holder adapted to contain an absorbent material and provided with a nipple through which disinfectant may be supplied to said material, a closure cap for the nipple, a hanger fixed to the holder body and adapted to be engaged upon the transmitter mouth piece and clamped thereby against the body of the transmitter, and a tube fixed to the holder body at one of its ends extending outwardly beneath themouth piece and being then returned upon itself and obliquely extended upwardly into the mouth piece to supply disinfectant vapor to the mouth piece adj acent to the transmitter diaphragm.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
I FREDERICK SAYLES. Witnesses:
LYLE A. BOWMAN, GRAY SECOR.
