To all whom itch/a3 concern and ARNALDO MANUPPELLI, subjects of the King of Italy, residing at Ellsworth, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful constructed of some suitably light metal and provided with a concavo convex bottom Improvements in Garbage-Cans; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in garbage cans and resides in the provision of a novelly constructed can which is extremely sanitary and provided with means for disinfecting and deodorizing whereby objectionable smells are dispensed with.

Another important object of our invention is to provide a garbage can of the character described which employs a closure cap constructed in a novel manner so that a sponge infecting and deodorizin is appended 0r wad of suitably absorbent material containing a'disinfectant and dcodorizcr may be supported within the cap in spaced relation to the garbage in the can.

Another important object of our invention is to provide a closure cap of the character described which employs means for prevent-- ing garbage coming in contact with the dismeans and to pro vide a removable cap at the upper end of the closure cap whereby ready access to the means for holding the disinfectant or deodorizer is had.

This invention aims to improve garbage cans of the character described so as to rcnder them more practical, sanitary, strong and durable, cheap to manufacture and more commercially desirable.

Referring to the drawing .the numeral 1 designates the body portion of the can which in the preferred form is cylindrical and wall 2.

supporting legs 5 which are preferably integral-with the body plate 4, is adapted to receive the can so that the bottom wall 2 of the can is spaced from the ground and prevents rusting. The peripheries of the wall- 2 and plate 4 are formed in fiat horizontal bearing portions 6 which bear against each other and prevent falling or toppling: of the can.

The upper portion of the body portion 1 is offset to provide a reduced neck portion A conical closure cap 8 having its inner edge bent inwardly and upwardlv to form a U-shaped portion 9 is adapted to seal the can or body portion 1 and is disposed with the U-shaped portion 9 in engagement with the shoulder 7. The U- shaped portion 9 provides for the disposal of the cap 8 and body portion 1 in flush relation to each other. and provides a neat and secure fastening.

Mounted adjacent the apex portion of the conical closure cap 8 is a semi-spherical container 10 provided with a plurality of perforations 11 and a peripheral securing flange 12 that is disposed at right angles to the containcr 1,0. This flange 12 is bent downwardly and an rularly at its outer edge and soldered or otherwise suitably secured to the inner curved face or" the conical cap 8 as at 13. A sponge or wad of suitable absorbent material. not shown. is saturated with a disintectant and is placed within the container l0.

Disposed below the container 10 within the cap 8 is a horizontally arranged perforated plate 14 that is soldered or otherwise suitably secured to the cap 8 as at 15. This plate 14 is arranged in spaced relation to the container 10 and to the reduced neck portion (3 of the body portion 1. so that garbage when placed in the body portion 1 is-prevented coming in; contact with the container 1-0. 1

' 18. This cap 18 is provided with asuitable handle portion 19 and seals the opening in the main cap. It will be readily seen that access to the container for the purpose of removing or placing the sponge saturated with disinfectant therein is readily permitted by the arrangement described.

It will be readily seen that the garbage can of our improved construction can be manufactured at a low cost and possesses many advantages over the old style of garbage cans inasmuch as sanitary conditions 20fare had and objectionable odors are dispensed with.

In reduction to practice, we have found that the form of our invention, illustrated in the-drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most eflicient and practical; yet realizing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of our device Will necessarily vary,

lVhat is claimed is A garbage can comprising a cylindrical body portion and a stand for supporting the can comprising a concaved body plate and a plurality of integral supporting legs whereby the can is spaced from the ground, said body portion having a convex bottom Wall and provided adjacent its periphery With a flat horizontal portion, said body plate having a flat horizontal portion adjacent its periphery adapted for engagement with the fiat horizontal portion on the bottomwall of said can whereby the can is prevented oven turning relative to the stand.
