RUBBER STAMP.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM KIEKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albuquerque, in the county of Bernalillo and State of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inRubber Stamps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to printing and more particularly to rubber stamps employed in printing letters or characters.

An object of this invention is the provision of a novel form of rubber stamps which may be employed for printing letters or other characters of multiple colors.

iVith the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and claimed.

In describing this invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of ref erence designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which,

Referring to the drawings by numerals 1 designates the body portion or supporting structure of a rubber stamp which is constructed in the ordinary manner and has a rubber coating upon its face 2 which is formed with a raised surface so as to print any letter or character or portion thereof.

In Fig. 2 of the drawings the rubber coating 3 which is secured to the face 2 of the body portion 1 is formed with raised portions so as to print the shading of a letter A such as is shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings. Handles are formed upon the top surfaces of the body portions 1 to facilitate the handling of the stamps.

or characters formed upon a rubber coating as is desired, for instance a body portion has the rubber mounted thereupon shaped so as to print the dark or solid side 5 of the letter or character as is shown in Fig. 7 of the drawings and when the stamp thus constructed is used in connection with the stamp such as is shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings a letter or character as shown in Fig. 7 having the shaded portion 6 of a different color to the body 5 of the letter is printed. Various modified forms of this type of rubber stamp may be employed which will print different characters or letters in different manners one of which is shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings wherein the body portion 7 of the letter is surrounded by an outline 8 of the same.

For the printing of a letter or character in multiple colors with rubber stamps made in accordance with this invention a ruler 10 is used. The ruler 10 is of one of the rulers having a groove 11 extending longitudinally therethrough. A member 12 is spaced at any desirable point upon the ruler 10 having the tongue 13 which is formed thereon, seated in the groove 11. The block 12 used in connection with the ruler 10 forms a means for designating the exact place at which the letter is to be printed in that when one portion of the letter. for instance the shaded portion 6 such as is shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings, is printed one end of the body portion 1 of the stamp is placed so as to engage one side of the block 12. The portion of the letter or character is then printed. After the shaded portion 6 of the letter or character is printed the body portion 1 which has the printed stamp upon its face for the printing of this shaded portion 6 is moved and the body portion 1 which has the rubber stamp for printing the portion 5 of the letter is next employed and it is placed so that the end which corresponds with the end of the formerly used body portion is placed in engagement with the side 12. In this manner the letters are properly spaced.

Having thus fully described this invention what is claimed is:

1. In a device for printing characters of multiple colors, the combination of a plurality of rubber stamps, one of said rubber stamps having a rubber coating fonned upon forms of letters its face, said rubber coating having the form of a character, the other of said rubber stamps having a rubber coating formed upon its face, said last mentioned rubber coating forming shading for the character, said rubber stamps to be used successively for the printing of a shaded character.

2. in a device for printing shaded letters, the combination of a plurality of stamps each including a body portion having a rubber coating formed upon its under face, handies projecting from the top surfaces thereof to facilitate the handling of the stamps,

the rubber coating on one of the stamps being provided with a raised surface to form a letter the rubber coating on the other of the stamps being provided with raised portions to form shading; for the letter, and said rubber stamps being inked and applied successively for the printing of shaded characters.
