Description
Nb Mod'eL) H. R. FULLER;
LEAD 0R GRAYON PENCIL. No. 466,300. I Patented Dec. 29, 1891.
Warsaw mZ'ar:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARVEY R. FULLER, OF BUTLER, INDIANA.
L EAD OR CRAYON PENCIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,300, dated December 29, 18 91.
Application filed July 3, 1891. Serial No. 398,623. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARVEY R. FULLER, of Butler, in the county of De Kalb and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shading Lead, Slate, and Crayon Pencils, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The objectof my invention is to construct pencils and crayons in such a manner as to shade the marks formed by the said pencils and crayons with same or different colors at a single stroke.
My invention consists of two or more parallel bars of marking material, which are of different widths, the same or different colors, between which is a space or spaces; or in place of such space a solid bar of non-marking material may be employed, all inclosed in stock, so that a shaded mark can be made at one stroke, consisting of one or more colors, as will be hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a View of the pencil or crayon, showing the space between the bars of marking material. Fig. 2 is a view of the same with the space between the bars of marking material filled with a non-marking material.
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of my pencil or crayon, showing it ready for use.
In all the figures, A represents the stock, in which the bars of marking material are held.
13 in all the figures represents the bars of marking material.
C in Fig. 1 represents a space between the bars of marking material.
D in Figs. 2 and 3 represents non-marking material between bars of marking material. The bars are inserted in stock and secured by well-known means used in the manufacture of ordinary lead-pen oils.
The pencils and crayons are adapted to various classes of work where shaded lines are desired, especially'in drafting, lettering, show or display cards, blackboard-lettering, slatelettering, map-drawing, &c.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A shading pencil or crayon consisting of stock in which are inclosed bars of marking material of the same color and of different widths, between which is a space or bar of non-marking material, whereby a shaded line of one color may be made at one stroke, substantially as set forth.
2. In a shading-pencil, two or more bars of marking material of different widths of any desired colors, between which is a space or spaces or bars of non-marking material inclosed in the stock, whereby a shaded mark can be'made at a single stroke, consisting of one or more colors, the shaded lines being of different widths, substantially as set forth.
HARVEY R. FULLER.
