SHOE STRUCTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 30, 1915.
Application filed. July 17, 1915. Serial N 0. 40,462.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMERY E. ANDERSON, citizen of the United States, residing at Ellsworth, in the county of Hamilton and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe Structures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Thisinvention relates to certain improvements in shoe structures and has relation more particularly to the top of a shoe, and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved shoe top which serves as an effective medium for maintaining the shoe in applied position.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved shoe structure whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use. all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, 1 will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanving drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a shoe provided with a top constructed in accordance with an embodiment ofmy invention, with said top shown in appliedrelation; and Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of a shoe illustrating my improved top as herein embodied in an open or inoperative adiustment.
As disclosed in the accompanving drawingsQU denotes an upper of a shoe of any desired st le to which my improved top T is attached. As herein embodied, my im- I proved too comprises two sections. the forward section A and the rear section B. the side marginal portions of the forward section A being adapted to overlie the adia cent marginal portions of the rear section B. and the upper or free extremity of the forward section A is provided with a strap 1. adapted to encircle the ankle of the foot of the wearer, and the free end of the strap 1, herein embodied, is provided with the button hole 2, adapted to coact with the button 3 fixed to the tab projecting laterally from the opposite side of the forward section A at the top thereof. It will also be noted that the strap 1 and the tab 4 are adapted to overlie the rear section B as is clearly illustratedin Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawlugs.
The rear section B, or more particularly the upper portion thereof, is adapted to surround the ankle of the wearer and the upper free marginal portions thereof are provided with a suitable coacting locking means here. in disclosed as the button hole 5 and the button 6. The upper marginal portions of the rear section B, are provided with the extensions 7 so that the overlap may be aiforded to permit the desired coaction between the button 6 and the button hole 5. It is to be understood that in lieu of the button holes 2 and 5 and the buttons 3 and 6, any other fastening means may be employed which may be used with convenience and facility.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a shoe structure constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that.
surround the ankle of the wearer, the free marginal portions of the rear section adiacent the upper end thereof being provided with extensions adapted to overlap. said extensions being provided with coactmg securing means, the forward section being provided at its upper end portion With a later- In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my ally projecting strap adapted to be disposed signature in the presence of two Witnesses. rearwardly around theankle of thewearer, EMERY E.
