To all whom it may] concern? a citizen of the. United States, residing in the city-and county of Philadelphia, State .of Pennsylvania have invented a new and useful Mailing-Envelop, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of a mailing envelop or package whose closing flap is provided with a supplementary flap which is adapted I to be attached to the back of the envelop preferably by adhesive material, and is secured to said closing flap by a tongue there on, the same being adapted to be reeved in said supplementary flap, thus firmly connecting the latter with the closing flap.

The invention is satisfactorily illustrated I in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be va ried, as long as they are included in the scope of the claim. I

Figure 1 represents a rear elevation of a mailing envelop embodying 'my invention the same being in closed'position. Fig. 2 represents a view of a portion of the same in open condition. Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the body of a mailing envelop or wrapper, which excepting the feature of my invention applied thereto is of usual construction. 7

Depending from the closing flap 2 thereof is the tongue 3, the same being integral with said flap.

4 designates a flap which is supplemental to the flap 2 and having thereon on its inner face adhesive material as at 5, whereby it may be secured to the back 6 of the envelop, it being connectible with the flap 2. In said flap 4 are the openings 7, 8 and 9,

of, and the opening 9 being intermediate 7 of the openings 7 and 8. The lower portion .of the tongue 3 is insertedthrough the upper opening 7, thus placing the upper portion of the flap 4 on the back of the flap 2.

Then said tongue is passed under the flap 4 and inserted through the lower opening 8 when itis turned upon the cross bar 10 on the flap 4 formed by the openings 8 and 9 and tucked into said opening 9 so that what was its lower portion is seated against the upper portion of the tongue and against the lower portion of the flap 2, whereby the tongue retains its position, and the flap 4 is reliably connected with the flap 2. The envelop may now receive its merchandise or goods when itis closed and the flap secured to the back 6 of the body of the envelop by the adhesive material 5, when the envelop may be mailed without liability of accidental opening, but the post office official may disengage the tongue 3 from the flap 4, when the flap 2 proper may be opened while the flap 4 remains a fixture of the body owing to its prior attachment thereto by the adhesive material 5 employed and the contents of the envelop are exposed for inspection, after which the tongue may be reengaged with the flap 4 when the envelop is closed as before.

In order to open and raise the flap 2 in a convenient manner it is provided with the finger piece 11- cut or punched out of the material of said flap and remains integral therewith and capable of being moved out opening 12, so as to be engaged with the latter.

In Figs. 9, 10 and 11, the construction is similar to that shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, exceptingthat the finger piece 11 is dispensed with in the former.

lVhile I have denominated the device as a mailing envelop, it may be used for general business purposes as a package or folder to contain merchandise or goods, and carry or transmit the same in closed condition to its place of destination.
