My invention relates to improvements in desk calendars in which the calendar is made up of a pad of loose leaves each leaf representing one day in the year.

The object of my invention is to provide a desk calendar of the character'ment-ioned in which the loose leaves will be conveniently displayed, singly and in the order of their sequence,- the back or blank faces of the unused sheets being used as a memorandum. 4

A further object is to provide such a device in which the separate leaves may be easily changed from day to day.

Astill further object is to provide such a calendar in which the entire pad may be -easily removed when it has expired and a new calendar pad easily and readily put into place.

may be attained by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, al-

- though my invention may be embodied in a variety of other mechanical forms, the construction illustrated being chosen by way of example.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved desk calendar. Fig. 2

is a longitudinal vertical section through the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view.- Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of a portion of the device showing the pad retaining wire in its open position. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the .pad retainingrod.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views. Referring more specifically to the' construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, the base portion of the device is preferably formed from a sheet of metal comprising the upper plate 1, preferably inclined slightly toward the front and provided with the slightly beveled side walls 2 and the inclined front and rear walls 3 and 4. respectively, the front wall being provided with the inwardly bent half round feet 5 to prevent marring of the polished surface upon which the calendar may be placed. The back 6 is located in an angle of substantially 70 and is provided wlth the integral side flanges 7. The back is held in position upon thebase by means of its lower end 6 being turned over the lower *edge of the rear wall 4 of the base portion and by means of the tongues 8 upon the lower edges of the side. flanges 7 which tongues pass through the slots 9 in the plate 1 ,ofthe base portion and are bent up against said plate. The roll formed at 6 serves the purpose of a foot and prevents the device from scratching any surface upon which it may be placed.

The pad retaining Wire rod 10 is hingedly connected to the back 6 at a point near the lower end of said back. The retaining rod 10 comprises the central horizontal portion 11 the free ends'12 of which are bent up-. .wardly at right-angles to the portion 11, to

a point substantially half. of their lengths, the remainingportion 13 being bent down in an acute angle, thereby forming an inverted V at,each-end of the horizontal portion 11, the apex 14 of each V beingrounded. The. retaining rod 10 is held in position upon the back 6 by means of the tongue 15, which passes the horizontal portion 11 of said rod,-

the free ends of the rod being passed -through the apertures 16, which apertures are formed of a'size to admit the retaining rod to be moved into the position illustrated m Fig. 4: of the drawings. The outward depressions 17 are formed in the back 6 adjacent the apertures 16 toallow the free movement of the retaining rod. The lower extremities 18 of each of the downwardly bent portions 13 of the retaining rod are adapted to pass through the keyhole slots 19, the reduced portions 20 of said rod being adapted to spring into the reduced portion 21 of the keyhole slots. The retaining rod is preferably formed of spring material so that the portions 13 Will normally spring outward thereby forcing the reduced por tions'20 of said rod into the reduced por tions 21 of the keyhole slots.

The calendar pad is made up of a series of loose leaves corresponding in number to the days in the year, each sheet representing one day in the year, such as in Fig. -1 the sheet displayed representing Friday, the

fourth day of July 1913. Each of the calkeyhole slots when the retaining rod may be oscillated into the position shown in Fig; 4., The calendar pad is then passed upon the' legs 13, the several sheets of said pad being placed face down, the-sheet representing the first day of the year being placed upon the top of the pad and the other sheets following in their correct order. As each day has passed the sheet for that date is slipped over the rounded portion 14: and down upon the leg 12 and against the back 6. In this Way the sheets are moved one by one off the base 1 against the back 6 so that say on the fourth day of July the calendar will have assumed the appearance shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the sheet 23 which 'carries the date for the fourthof July being located upon the legs 12 of the retaining rod and against the sheets representing the days which have already passed, the sheet 24, which carries the following date, being located upon the remaining sheets on the base 1, the blank face being turned upwardly to be used as a memorandum.

I claim 1. In combination, a base formed of sheetmetal, said base provided with an inclined top, beveled side and end walls respectively, an inclined back extended upward and backward from the base, said back provided with side walls, a pad retaining rod hingedly connected to the back at a point near the lower end of said back, said retaining rodp rovided with substantially vertical portions and inclined portions, the ldwer ends of the vertical portions provided with notches, said notches adapted for engagement with key hole slots locatedat the rear end of the inclined base, substantially as and for thepurpose specified.

2. In combination, a base formed of sheet. metal, said base provided with an inclined top, beveled side and end walls respectively,

an'inclined back extended upward and backward from the base, said back provided with side walls, a pad retaining rod hingedly connected to the back at a point near the lower end of said'back, said retaining rod provided with substantially vertical portions and inclined portions, and a substantially horizontal portion, said horizontal portion being located along the rear face of the back, the inclined portions of the rod being located through suitable apertures in the back, a depression formed in the back adjacent each of the apertures and an integral tongue formed upon the back and bent around the horizontal portion of the rod, the lower ends of the vertical portions provided with notches, said notches adapted for engagement with key hole slots located atthe rear end of the inclined base.
