IPAD HOLDER.

This invention relates to improvements in holders for calendar', writing or other memorandum pads, so constructed that they may be conveniently placed on a table or a desk', and serve as a support for pens or pencils.

In various forms of calendars Where a daily pad is attached thereto, a top plate is usually secured to the base of the pad and is utilized as a cutting device to sever the leaves of the pad. After "a number of leaves have so been severed, thetopfplate no longer serves as a cutter,the result heing that the remaining leaves when, torn off, leave ragged edges and thus mar thejappearance of the pad unless the saidtop plate is taken off and the stubs removed. This necessitates the expenditure of considerable time that might he utilized to better, advanta e.

n order tov overcome these undesirable features, l have provided a pad holder, one

of the objects of which is the vprovision of means associated With the said holder` Whereby the leaves may be readily and entirely removed from the pad Without removing or disturbing any of the parts of the pad holder.

Another object of the invention is to provide a pad holder of the character referred to, the base of which, having means thereon to retain a loose leaf pad provided With grooves at the lateral edges thereof.

A further object of the invention is to provide a stamped metal supporting base for a pad of the character referred to, the said hase being so formed as to provide means for angularly supporting the said p A still further object of the invention is to provide a pad holder having combined pad retaining and pen or pencil supporting means thereon.

Another object is to produce a device of the character described in which the maximum simplicity of construction and operation is secured.

Other objects and advantages will appear Vas the nature of the improvements is better understood, the invention consisting substantially in the novel arrangement and corelation of parts herein fully described, andy illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to describe corresponding y.parts to cover. all the genericand specilic features g of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which, as a mattery oflanguage,- might be said tofall.` therebetween, and that materials,

Referring now to the drawings in detail, 5 indicates a supporting hase preferably made of a single sheet of metal provided with a cupped or raised base strengthening portion (i of approximately the same length and width as the pad 7 which rests thereon and with a supporting bracket 8 having an S or ogee contour in side elevation. The upper portion 9 and the lower portion l0 of the S, form surfaces or platforms upon which peus or pencils may be kept to be used when desired.

The base 5 is further provided With holes or openings ll. Posts l2 having undercut portions 12a, are rotatably mounted in the said holes. To place a pad on the holder, all one has to do is to slightly flex the pad and place saine between the posts l2 and the grooves 16 will engage the said posts and thus aline the pad between them, or the posts may be revolved nntil the hooked ends extend in a straight line outwardly and on each side ol' the hase and the pad placed thereon with the grooves 1G in engagement with the said posts, after which the plate '17 mayA be placed on the pad and the posts. returned to the position shown in the drawings. After a sheet has been used up, it is merely pulled ont from between the posts, the notches l5 in the sheets permitting' of the said operation without tearing the sheet and leaving any stub under the plate 17.

ln Fig. a l have shown a modified '.torm of my invention wherein the reduced or nnderent portion 12 of one of the posts 12, which journals in the opening` 1l, is eccentric withthe post.l This provides means for more tirmly holding the pad when the posts are rotated to normal position after the insertion olf a pad.

From the foregoing it will be seen that the device herein described makes a very simple, compact, inexpensive and attractive article in' which it is easy to remove and replace the leaves ot the pad when desired.'

Havingl described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. ln a device of the character described, a base tor supportin` a pad, said pad having grooves at the lateral edges adjacent one end thereof, posts rotatably mounted in the base in engagement with the grooves :for maintaining the pad on `the base, and hooked ends on the posts providing pen-supporting means when extending beyond one end o'l the pad and providing pad-coinpression means when overlying the pad.

ln a device otl the character described, a base for supporting a pad, said pad having grooves rat the lateral edee; adjacent one end thereof. posts on the base 'tor engagement with the saidy grooves 'for maintaining the pad'on the base, and a. plate removably supported on the pad between the posts to prevent accidental displacement of the pad sheets.

3. ln a pad holder, a hase tor supporting a pad thereon, and rotatably mounted posts in thefbase tor maintaining the pad on the base, one ot' the said posts being eccentrically mounted in the base.

el. A pad holder, eoniprising a base to support a pad thereon, pad maintaining posts rotatably mounted in the base, and hooked portions on the posts adapted to overlie the pad when rotated thereabove and prevent accidental displacement of said pad when being shipped.
