Application led January 8, 1915.
To f/ZZ 207mm it may concern.'
Be it known that l, MARTIN ANDERSON Hannnnh, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razorllade Sharpeners7 of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in razor sharpeners and more particularly to that class designed to grind a razor blade.
One object of the invention is to provide griinling rolls which engage both sides of the blade simultaneously thereby performing the sharpening operation quickly.
Another object is to provide a blade holding device that may be turned completely around without removing the blade thereby permitting each face of the blade to be sharpened by each grinding roll to impart an even edge to the blade.
Another object is to provide a blade holder that mav be rotated and adjusted at any angle to the perpendicular desired to hold the blade in a position in which it may be honed preparatory to the sharpening operation.
ll'ith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fnllv described in the following speitication. pointed ont in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of said specification and in which- Figure. l is a top plan view of my improved razor Sharpener. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view. Fig. t i` another side view of the device. Fig. 1') is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 5 5 of Fig. l. Fig. (i is an end view with one of the grinding rolls removed to show the blade retaining means.
Like reference characters indi ate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
lvly razor sha1-poner comprises the grinding rolls l. 2 mounted upon shafts 3, 4 carried by the frame 5 which frame is preferably of oblong shape and provided with the handle G. The said frame is slotted longitudinally in each side at 7. in which slotted portion the ends of the shaft '-l are disposed, to permit limited longitudinal movement of shaft l-lwith respect to the frame. The shaft Alis journaled in a yoke 8 arranged inside the frame 5 and supported upon guide pins Specification of Letters Patent.
Fatented Nov. 9, 1915.
Serial No. 1,124.
9, 9 which extend through apertures in one end of the frame and which guide pins are provided with pressure springs 10, 10
that abut the frame and yoke to place the latter member under a tension. A draw pin ll also carried by the yoke 8 extends through an aperture in the frame 5 and is threaded as at 12 to receive the adjusting nut 13 by means of which said yoke, shaft 4 and grinding roll 2 may be moved longitudinally of the frame 5.
rl`he frame 5 is formed with a pair of integral standards 14, 1+i which are provided with stop pins 15 and are connected by a rotary cross piece 16 one of the ends 17 of which is threaded for engagement with an adjusting nut 1S so that said cross piece may be locked in any adjusted position desired. The cross piece 16 is apertured to permit passage. of the lift screw 19 which is operated by means of the nut 2O and said lift screw is connected, at its lower end, with the holder plate 2l which is provided with lugs 22, adapted to project through openings in the adjusting plate 23 to which the keeper 249 provided with finger piece 25, is pivoted at QG.
The blade 27 to be sharpened is placed against the face of the holder plate, the lugs 22, 22 extending through the usual holes in the blade; the adjusting plate 23 is then applied to the holder plate and locked in position b v means of the keeper 24. It is understood, of course, that for blades not having holes for passage of the lugs 22, 2Q- these lugs may be dispensed with and suitable clasps or other fastening meansused. The blade holder, which comprises the plates 2l, 23 is readily raised or lowered by means of the litt screw and this screw and blade holder may be rota ted together with the cross piece 1G wlricli may he looked in any position desired by means of the nut 1S. As shown in Fig. dotted lines, of the drawings the blade may be. retained in an adjusted position in which it may be honed readily and the cross piece t ien released and the blade adjusted between the grinding rolls.
The shaft 3 of grinding roll` l is provided with a handle E28 by means of which it may be rotated and this motion transmitted to the roll by means of the cog `wheels 29,`
