BOTTLE.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, BERNARD .ICUNNING- HAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corona, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which thefollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to bottles, and has particular utility when applied to nursing bottles, which it is especially desirable to keep perfectly sweet and clean.
The object ofthe invention is to provide a bottle which can be thoroughly washed and cleaned, and to this end, I have devised a bottle having a removable bottom and provided with means for firmly holding the same in position when the bottle is in use.
In order that the invention may be readily understood,'reference is had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure l is a vertical, central sectionA throughmy improved bottle; Fig. 2 is a similar section on a plane at right angles to that of Fig. l, parts being in elevation; and, Fig. 3 is a plan view on an enlarged scale of a special construction ofV cap,.here inafter described. Y
Referring to the drawings indetail, my improved bottle comprises a body l, having the usual neck 2. The bottom 3 of the bottle is removable and may conveniently be formed of hard rubber, orv the like. Rigidly secured to the center of the bottom and preferably integral therewith, is a connecting member 4, which extends upwardly through the neck of the bottle and projects beyond the upper 'edge thereof, as indicated at 6. This connecting member may be of any suitable form, but is shown as consisting of a tube, cut away on its sides, as indicated at 5, so that the liquid may readily flow into the same from the bottle and out. through that portion of the tube which passes through the neck. In order to hold the bottom in position, I provide a cap 7, fitting over and having a screw-threaded engagement with the projecting end 6 of the connecting member, the lower edge of such cap bearing against and being supported by the upper end of the neck 2. The edge of the bottom 3 is preferably rabbeted, as indicated at 8. l
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov.2, 1915.
Application iiled April 29, 1915. Serial Nor-24,777.
` In the case of a nursing bottle, a suitable i nipple (not shown) may be fitted directly to the cap 7, or iffthe bottle is to be used for other purposes, a suitable closure may be provided. As illustrated in Fig. 3, a convenient construction consists vin a disk 10, pivoted to the cap 7 at -11 and capable of swinging laterally so as to cover and uncover the opening in a'well known manner.
It will be seen that lby virtue of the hollow connecting member 4L, the free flow of liquid through the lbottle neck is permitted at all times, and by unscrewing the cap 7 the bottom and connecting member lmay be removed so that the parts may be subjected to individual cleaning and sterilization.
What I claim is:
of'a removable bottom therefor, and means extending vthrough the inside of the bottle -for holdingsaid bottom in position, such Y means permitting the free passage of liquid through the neck of the bottle in the usual manner.
. 12. Thecombination with a bottle body, of a removable bottom therefor, a connecting member extending upwardly from the bottom through the neck of the bottle, and means outside of the neck for securing said member in position.
3. The combination with a bottle body, of a removable bottom therefor, a connecting member extending upwardly fromthe bottom through the neck ofthe bottle, and a screw cap engaging'said member, and resting against the endof the neck. Y
4. lA bottle comprisingA a bodyhaving the usual neck, a removable bottom, a hollow connecting member, open at the side, secured to said Ibottom "and extending upwardly through said neck,- and a 'cap screw-threaded onto the projecting end of said member and y BERNARD J. riCUN-NINGrIrIAM.
