Description

Dec. 20, 1932. A, BOBRI' K 1,891,794
BOTTLE CAP Filed Dec. 22. 1951 v //v VENTOA Mr? Y0 H. 5 05R/c K Patented Dec. 20, 1932 UNITED STATES MAYO A. BOBBICK, OI CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OHId BOTTLE oar Application filed December 22, 1931. Serial No. 582,565,
This invention relates to bottle caps, and particularly to an auxiliary or removable bottle cap which may be quickly applied to and removed from the mouth of an ordinary 5 beverage bottle after the regular cap has been removed, for the purpose of assisting drinking the beverage directly from the bottle.
The practice of drinking from a bottle has several objections, one of which is the possible unsanitary condition of the mouth of the bottle; another is that it sometimes happens that small particles of glass are broken from the mouth of the'bottle when the usual cap is removed, and if these particles are swallowed it may cause serious trouble.
Another advantage of the present invention is that it assists the drinking action, by producing a small and regular flow of the beverage into the mouth.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device applied to a bottle. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
In the drawing 6 indicates an ordinary beverage bottle. Applied to this, after the removal of the usual cap, is the cap of the present invention, indicated at 7. This is made of flexible rubber or other similar mate rial, and is somewhat elastic so that it will take care of small variations in the mouth of the bottle and fit closely around'the same when applied. The cap has a flange 8 with a bead 9 at the inner edge of the flange, to engage the rim 10 at the mouth of the bottle.
The cap has an opening 11 extending through the same, and preferably located'at one side of the center, and this opening 11 serves for the discharge or flow of the fluid from the bottle when it is applied to the mouth of the drinker. The liquid thus escapes in a relatively small stream and the danger of choking is reduced. Also, when the cap is in place and the bottle is raised against the mouth of the drinker the upper lip is pressed against the cap just above the hole, and this pressure with a slight movement in or out bends the soft rubber of the cap in or out and causes a regular and even flow of the fluid to agree with the swallowing action.
After being used on one bottle the rubber cap may be removed and used on another;
and it may be carried in the pocket for use on various occasions.
One form of the device is shown in the a drawing, but obviously it may be varied in.
size and shape, within the scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. A soft rubber bottle cap having a relatively fiat top to be placed against the lips of a drinker, the top having an opening through the same through which the contents of the bottle may be discharged without distorting the cap. I
2. A bottle cap as in claim 1, the opening being located at one side of the center of the top.
3. An elastic soft rubber bottle cap having a flange with a head at its edge to en age the rim of the bottle, the top of the cap eing in substantially a single plane to fit against the lips of a drinker and having a discharge opening.
4. A bottle cap as in claim 3, said opening being located near one edge of the top.
In testimony whereof, I do aflix my signa ture.
MAYO A. BOBRICK.
