My present invention has reference to a pouring spout for fluid containers.
My primary object is the product'on of a pouring spout for containers that has asso- 6' ciated therewith spring means forclamp'ing the same on the container.
Another object is the provision of a device for this purpose that is of an extremely simple construction, may be cheaply manufactured and marketed, readil applied and as eas'ly detached and cleane when not required for use.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
-In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective viewillustratmg the appl'cation of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a 'top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary elevation thereof looking toward the mouth of the spout.
A liquid, fiuid'or like container'is, in Figure 1 of the drawings, indicated by the numeral 1. As is usual the top ofthe container is punctured to provide a fluid outlet opening 2 and an air inlet aperture 3. This showing is merely illustrative, as it is to be understood and will be apparent that the spout can be readily attached to cans or other containers having open mouths, .as well as to mugs, cups, measuring devices and the like. Also with the improvement an ordinary drinking glass employed as a container for milk, cream, etc., may be provided with a pouring spout.
Arranged over the outer edge of the top of the container, directly opposite the'outlet opening 2 therein, there is the depending flanged portion 4 that is formed on the inner edge of my improved pouring spout 5. The flange is, of course, circular in plan, to correspond with the contour of the container, and the pouring spout preferably is formed of a single piece of suitable material, metal preferred, rounded upon itself from its outer corners to form the center thereof with the spout proper and the sides thereof with guards 6. The mouth of the spout is indicated for distinction by the numeral 7. The
flange or what may be more properly termed the apron portion 4 of the spout 5, has its central portion widened and both its center and its end portions are rounded upon themselves to provide eyes or barrels 8, respectively, through which passes a spring wire 9. Of course, the spring wire 9 is offset, as at 10, to the opposite sides of the central por tion thereof that passes through the central barrel 8. The wire member is round in plan and in reality comprises a split ring. The ends of the ring are bent right angularly, as at 11, and from thence inwardly, as at 12. These inturned portions are rounded upon themselves to provide finger pieces 13. The inner edges of the bod of the spout are formed with inwardly irected flat cars 14, and these ears overlie the, top of the container 1 while the flange 4 contacts with the outer face of the container. Also it is to be noted that the rounded portions or what I have termed the finger pieces 13, rest directly on the top of the container. Thus the spout and the split spring ring are effectively sustained on the container.
My improvement may be easily arranged on a container and is self-sustaining thereon. The improvement may be cheaply constructed and manufactured. The device when not required for use may be easily removed from the container and may at all times be sustained in a clean and sanitary condition.
Having described the invention, I claim 1. A detachable spout for fluid containers, comprising a spout proper having its inner edge rounded and provided, at the corners thereof, with inwardly directed flat fingers,
said spout having its inner edge, inward of the fingers, formed with a down-turned flange, a split spring ring fixedly secured to the lower edge of the flange, said ring having its ends extended at upward angles and from thence bent inwardly and the extremities of the said bent portions being rounded.
21 A pouring spout for fluid containers, comprising a spout proper which has its inner edge rounded, its lower corners formed with rearwardly extending flat ears, and the said rounded edge, between the ears being flanged downwardly, and the central portion of the flange being extended below the remainder thereof, the last mentioned and side portions of the flanges being rounded upon themselves, a spht spring ring having ing rounded portions of the flange id ring "having its ends bent upwardly 1n the same direction and from thence extended 1 inwardly toward the spout and the extremities of the last mentioned portions being 10 rounded. upon themselves to provide fiat finger pieces.
In testim ony whereof I aflix my signature. 1 E'-- r e. HENRI PIQUE'F.
