MILES A. SANDERS, OF IUKA, ILLINOIS.
PACKAGE-TIE.
Application filed. February 15, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, MILES A. SANDERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Iuka, in the county of Marion and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in. PackageTies; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others killed in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has for its object to pro vide a simple and eliicient package tie or cord holder for reliably holding a cord in position about a package.
Another object is the provision of a pack age tie formed entirely of a single piece of sheet metal anchored at one end to a flexible member or cord and including means adapted to reliably secure the opposite or free end of the cord.
' With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the package tie applied to use. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view thereof.
Refer ing to the drawing in detail, wherein. similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates the body of Specification of Letters Patent.

the obliquely disposed cord-receiving groove 9. The portion of the package tie or cord holder is disposed above and in spaced relation to the body 5 and the end opposite the clamping members 7 is reduced, as indicated at 11, and bent back-upon the intermediate member 10 on a line disposed parallel with the longitudinal center of the body 5. The bight portion of the superposed reduced end 11 is formed with an integral pointed tooth 12.
In use, the tie is placed upon the package 13 and the cord or other flexible member 8 is looped longitudinally about the package and is disposed between the body 5 and the intermediate member 10 and is seated within the groove 9. The cord is subsequently looped transversely about the package and the free end portion thereof is engaged beneath the superposed member 11. The pointed tooth 12 reliably holds the cord against longitudinal movement under the member 11. and thus prevents the cord from loosening.
What I claim is:
A package tie including a relatively fiat body, a cord. secured to one end of said body, the opposite end of said body being bent on an oblique line to define an intermediate member, a reduced end on said body bent over the intermediate member, and a tooth foamed in the bigh't portion of the reduced on In testimony whereof I aliiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
