PATRICK CHARLES MCCORMICK, OF MAGKINAC ISLAND, MICHIGAN.
FASTENING DEVICE.
Application filed June 30, 1915.
To all whom 225 may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK C. McCon- MIcn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mackinac Island, in the county of Mackinac and State of lvfiehigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in fastening devices and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with a horse collar, and it is an object of the invention to provide a fastener having novel and improved means whereby the parts thereof may be en gaged or disconnected with convenience and facility and whereby an adjustable connection may be had.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved fastening device whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claims.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in perspective illustrating a fastening device constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in applied position; Fig. 2 is a view in top plan of one of the members herein embodied in my improved fastening device; and Fig. 3 is a view in top plan of a coacting member as herein embodied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, C denotes the meeting ends of a conventional collar with which my improved fastener, as herein embodied, is adapted to coact, although I wish to state that it is not my purpose to limit the use of my device in this particular respect. As herein disclosed, A and B denote the coacting parts of my improved fastener, the part or mem- Specifieation of Letterslatent.

her 1 having a flat body portion preferably rectangular in form provided with the openings or perforations 2 whereby the same may be suitably anchored in applied position. Extending from one end of the body 1 and adjacent a side thereof is the bar 3 preferably circular in formation and having projecting laterally therefrom the arms 4: disposed in parallelism and terminating in the inwardly directed extensions 5. It is to be observed that the arms l are disposed inwardly of the bar 3 relative to the body 1 and are of a length substantially equal to the width of the body 1.
The member B comprises a flat body portion 6 provided with openings 7 whereby it may be suitably anchored in applied position and one end thereof is provided with the hook extension 8 adapted to coact with the arms 4 whereby it will be perceived that the members or parts A and B- may be assembled or disconnected with convenience and facility, and it will be further observed that by the use of a plurality of arms 4, the connection between the members or parts A and B may be adjusted in order to meet the requirements of practice.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be'obvious that a fastening device constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility withwhich it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the scope of the appended claim and. for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
I claim:
A fastening device comprising two members, one of said members including a hook and the second of said members comprising a flat body portion provided with a bar projecting from an end thereof, and a plurality of arms extending laterally from the bar and terminating in inwardly disposed extensions, said bar being positioned adjacent a side of the flat body portion, the In testimony whereof I hereunto afiiX my fll'lllS being of a length substantially equal signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses. t0 the Width of the flat body portion, the PATRICK CHARLES MCCORMICK. spaces between the tree extrernltles of the inwardly disposed extensions and the ad- Witnesses: acent bar servlng as entrance openlngs for J. HAMILTON CHARTERS, the hook. M. G. BAILEY.
