SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 561,519, dated June 2, 1896.

Be it known that I, MARTIN O. REHFUSS, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Multiple Eye, (being a division of my application, Serial No. 543,685, filed March 29, 1895,) of which the following is a speoifi: cation.

My invention consists of a multiple eye for garment-fastenings in which the fastening portions of the eye are disposed to the best advantage with regard to the engaging portions of the same, so that neither of the engaging portions is very remote from the point of attachment, and hence has no undue free dom of movement.

My invention is fully illustrated in the accompany drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a multiple eye constructed in accordance with my inven' tion. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, and Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 are perspective views of modified forms of multiple eye made in accordance with my invention.

The multiple eye shown in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises opposite attaching portions orloops d and three engaging portions or loops Z), c,

and d, the engaging portion 0 consisting of a bar extending across from one attachingdoop a to the other, while the engaging portions b and (Z are about at an equal distance in opposite directions from said central bar. The loops 1), c, and cl are slightly bowed, so as to facilitate engagement of the hook of a garment-fastenin g therewith, the other portions of the eye lying closely upon the surface of the garment to which it is attached.

The purpose of this multiple eye is to provide a number of independent points of 0011- nection for the hook of a garment-fastening, extending in the same direction, so as to permit a certain amount of adjustment of the garment not permitted by the ordinary single eye.

The modified form of eye shown in Fig. 3

differs from that shown in Fig. 1 mainly in the location of the attaching-loops a, while the modified form of eye shown in Fig. 4 has the attaching-loops a at the end of the structure instead of in the center, each of said attaching-loops, moreover, consisting .of a double run of wire, the two runs being laid side by side, so that the eye presents buta single thickness of wire in order to lie closely against the face of the garment. While this is the preferable feature of my invention, it is not absolutely necessary in every case. For instance, in Fig. 5 I have shown a form of eye substantially similar to that shown in Fig. 4, but having the attaching-loops a formed by runs of wire which overlap each other instead of lying side by side, and in Fig. 6 I have shown a form of eye having but two engaging portions and 0 instead of three, the runs of wire crossing each other in forming one of the attaching-loops a and lying one on top of the other in forming the opposite attachingloop. I claim as my invention- 1. A multiple eye having attaching loops or bends, one or more engaging portions beyond the same, and another engaging portion formed by a loop extending across from one attaching portion to the other, substantially as specified.

2. A multiple eye having attaching loops or bonds, one or more engaging portions beyond the same, and another engaging portion formed by a loop extending across from one attaching portion to the other, the eye presenting but a single thickness of wire without crossing or overlapping loops or bends, substantially as specified.
