The objectof the invention is vto provide a new and improved powder `purl" attachment for hand-bags, purses and similar articles and arranged to permitconvenient removal of the powderA puff whenever it is desired to use the saine and to displayf a mirror mounted on the closing flap for a pocket containing the powder pu.

ln order to accomplish the desired result `use is made ofla pocket arrangedon the inner face of the body of the article, the front of the pocket forming an integral part of the body lining, a closing flap attached to the body, the flap being adapted to close the mouth of the pocket and to overlie the front of the pocket, and a mirror attached to the inner face of the fia A practical embo iment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a handbag provided with the powder puff attachment, the body of the hand-bag being shown open and the closing flap being shown raised and part of the pocket broken out; Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same with the handbag and pocket closed and part of the handbag shown in elevation; and Fig. 3 is :an enlarged sectional plan view of the same on the line 3*?) of'Fig. 1.

The body A of the handebag, purse or like article is made of leather, canvas or other suitable material, and is providedV with a suitable metallic frame B adapted to be opened and closed to obtain access to the interior of the body A.' The frame B is provided with a suitable locking device B of any approved construction -to hold the frame members normally in closed position and to allow convenient opening of the body A whenever it is desired to do so. Along the inner face of the back of the body A and near the upper end thereof is arranged a pocket C adapted to contain a removablepowder puff D of any approved construction. rlhe pocket C has its front forming an integral part of the lining F. for the back of the body A, the said lining being cut in a horizontal direction along a straight line C to form 1a mouth for the pocket C. A closing flap F is adapted to close the openmouth of the pocket C and is adapted to overlie the front of the pocket C, the flap F being for this purpose of considerable length and width so as to form sufficient space for acconnnodating a mirror G, glued or otherwise fastened to the inner face of the ap F. Thus when the iiap F is in closed position, as shown in Fig. 2, the mirror G is opposite or in register with the powder pu l) which thus forms a cushion for the mirror to prevent accidental breaking of the same. rlhe flap F is provided with lining F which forms a continuation of the lining C2 of the pocket C, and the said lining F together with the facing of the flap F is secured by a row of stitches H to the lining E of the back of the body A. This row of stitches H is a short distance above the mouth or edge C of the pocket C so that when the flap F is swung downward onto the face of the pocket it closes the mouth thereof. The flap F is provided along its edge with a binding F2, the bottom portion of which extends across the lining C2 and is attached thereto within the pocket C a distance below the mouth or edge C thereof to reinforce the back of the pocket C.

From the foregoing it will be seen that by the arrangement described the pocket and its flap F form integral parts of the lin- Ving and thus permit of cheaply manufacturing the powder puff attachment.

1t will also be noticed that the pocket is not subjected to a heavy strain as the puff D is exceedingly light and hence it suffices to use a portion of the lining of the back body for forming the pocket instead of using separate pieces and rendering the attachment more expensive.

A filling piece I of felt or other suitable material is interposed between the body A and the lining E to give the desired stiffness to the body A.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In a handbag, purse and similar article, the combination of a body provided with a lining, a pocket on the inner :tace of the said body, the front of the pocket forming an integral part of the lining, a flap for closing the mouth of the pocket and adapted to overlie the front of the pocket, and a mirror attached to the inner aceoi the flap and engaging the front of the pocket when the flap is in closed position.

2. In a hand-bag, purse and similar article, the combination of a body provided with a lining, a pocket on the inner face of the said body, the front of the pocket forming an integral part of the lining, a covering flap for closing the mouth oi thesaid pocket and adapted to overlie the front of the pocket, a lining for the said pocket and v having an extension forming a lining for the said flap, a powder puff removably held in the said pocket, and a mirror attached to the lining' of the flap and in register with the said powder puff at the time the flap is in closed position whereby the said powder puit forms a cushion for the mirror.
