devices of this kind as ordinarily constructed, the bag is provided with a number of pockets and has the back thereof continued to'form a flap which serves as a closure for the open ends of the various pockets, but the backing and flap are ordinarily used for "no other purpose than as a closure and thus the bag as a receptacle is much more limitedtha-n is the case with the present invention wherein the back and flap member is so made as to form a pocket adapted for the reception of various articles.

One of the principal objects therefore of the invention is to provide a hand bag or similar article in which the back and flap member may be made to form a secret pocket to receivevarlous artlcles and without materially increasing the size or affecting the general appearance of the bag as ordinarily made. I

A further object ofthe invention is to provide a secret pocket of considerable length which may extend substantially the entire length of the flap and back member and which has independent, means for closing the same and which is adapted to be folded with the flap portion.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and will thenbe pointed outin'the'claimat'the end of the description. In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of device embodying my invention and looking at the front. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, partly'in section, look ing at the rear of the device. Fig. 3 is a plan view with the back and flap member open; and Figs. 4 to 7 are fragmentary vertical sections showing slightly different forms of the invention.

The bag or device has a body 10 formed with or without a frame and comprises a plurality of pockets to receive various arti cles andwhich may be of the usual or of any preferred construction. The body 10 may have the usual strap 11 for carrying purposes and at the forward portion thereof has a socket member 12 which is'adapted to receive the button member 13 of a suitable fastener in the usual way. The. button member 13 of the fastener is held to the flap portion 14 forming a continuation of the back 15 as usual, thesaid flap 14 and back 15 forming a single member 16.

A secretpocket 17 is provided which may extend substantially the entire length and width of the member 16 so as to form a part of the back of the body 10 and the flap 14.

This pocket is formed by a member 18 wh ch is secured along its edges to the memher-16 by stitching or otherwise, and at the upper portion thereof is provided with but ton members 19 which are adapted to engage the socket members 20 of suitable fasteners of the usualor any preferred kind, and which are adapted to close the pocket when notin use. It will thus be evident that the pocket serves to utilize a part of the back not otherwise used and forms a handy receptacle for various articles, and the pocket whether containing articles or otherwise may be folded over so that the flap may close the pockets in the body 10 by the en gagementpf the members 12 and 13 of the fasteners 1n the usual way, and should the bag open by accident as often occurs, the articles contained in the pocket 17-are less likely to be lost than those contained in the pockets of the body 10.

In Fig. 4, the construction is substantially the same as shown in Figs. 1 to 3, except that the pocket instead of being se cured along themvertical edges is provided with a gusset 21 to increase its capacity.

In this case,,the upper end of the pocket may be closed by a short flap 2'2 havmg a fastener member 23 which is adapted to engage a fastener member 24, the whole flap and pocket being folded over in a manner similar to the construction shown in Fig. 1 and the usual hand bag. a

In Fig. 5, the construction differs from that described in that a partition is provided which divides the secret pocket into two parts 26 and 27 each adapted to independently receive articles. I

The construction shown in Fig. 6 is substantially the same as that shown in Fig. 1,

simple and :efiicient means is provided except that the pocket is open at the bottom instead of the top,and a'short flap 28 is provided having a. fastening element 29 which is adapted to engage the fastener member 30 to close the open end of the pocket. v I
