ATTACHMENT FOR HAIR-DRESSERS CHAIRS.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented Aug. 16, 1915.
Application filed March 9, 1914. Serial No. 823,596.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JANET Runs and GLADYS Runs, citizens of the United States, and residents of Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Attachment for Hair-Dressers Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
The object of our invention is to provide an attachment for hair dressers chairs of simple, durable and inexpensive construction, adapted for holding toilet preparations and the like.
More particularly it is our object to pro vide a support adapted to be secured to the back of a hair dressers chair and a means for holding toilet articles and the like, capable of being detachably mounted on said siupport and easily and readily adjusted from one position to another.
Our invention consists in certain details, in the construction, combination and arrangement of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in our claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 shows a rear elevation of a hair dressers chair, equipped with an attachment embodying our invention. Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the shelf. Fig. 3 shows a vertical, transverse, sectional view through the shelf and the supporting means, taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 shows a similar view taken on the line 4-4L of Fig. 2.
In the accompanying drawing we have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate generally a hair dressers chair, having the back 11. Detachably securedto the rear surface of the back 11 by means of screws or the like, near each side thereof, is a bracket 12. Supported by the brackets 12 and extending across the back of the chair, spaced apart therefrom, are two parallel r0ds 13, spaced from each other in the same vertical plane. Mounted on the rods 13 1s a supporting member 14, compr sing a vertically arranged plate having at its upper edge a downwardly opening channel or groove 15 and having near its lower edge a forwardly opening channel or groove 16. Formed on the supporting member 1 1 is a rearwardly extending shelf 17 provided with compartments formed by means of upwardly eX- tending walls and partitions 18 and 20. The shelf 17 may support toilet preparations, containers 21, toilet articles 22 and the like.
We preferably form the bottom 19 of the portion of the shelf 17 of material having openings in it to reduce the weight of the shelf. The bottom portion 19 also permits water to pass through, which is desirable in certain operations.
In the practical use of our improved attachment for hair dressers chairs, a shelf may be attached and used on a table or when desired may be mounted on the rods 13 and used adjacent to the chair. It is desirable to have toilet articles and preparations as convenient of access as possible to the chair. It is also desirable that the container for such articles be adjustable to permit the hair dresser to be as close as possible to the customer.
It will readily be seen that the shelf of our attachment may be moved longitudinally on the rods 13 to any desired position. The shelf may be quickly and easily removed by swinging it upwardly on the up per rod and then elevating it until the channel 15 clears the upper rod 13.
It will be understood that some changes may be made in the details of the construction of our device, without departing from its essential features, and it is our purpose to cover by this application any such changes which may be included within the scope of the following claim.
We claim as our invention:
In a device of the class described, the combination of a chair, with a pair of spaced alined brackets secured to the back thereof, parallel horizontal rods mounted in said brackets and a combined receptacle and bracket comprising a horizontal plate having a vertical extension at one side, said extension being provided at its upper edges with a portion curved forwardly and down that the plate can be readily slid along the 10 wardly to form a downwardly opening chanrods and also readily detached therefrom.
nel, and with a laterally extending ridge Des Moines, Iowa, February 21, 191%.
near its lower edge and witha shorter down- NETTIE REES wardly and laterally extending ridge below GLADYS REES the first ridge, the outer surface of said extension between said ridges being concave, Witnesses: said plate and extension being narrower M. WALLACE, than the distance between said brackets, so L. ROBINSON.
Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents. Washington, D. C.
