WITNESS GRAY BONIIAM, OF SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA.
APPARATUS FOR DRAINING DISHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 614,827, dated November 29, 1898.
Application filed March 8,1898. Serial No. 673,095. on model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRAYBONHAM, a'citizen of the United States, residing at Shreveport, in the parish of Oaddo and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Draining Dishes and Similar Articles, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to household articles and has particular relation to an improved apparatus for draining dishes and similar articles; and it has for its object to provide a simple and improved apparatus of this character which will be convenient and effective in operation.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompany- .ing drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same letters of reference in each of the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device or apparatus. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view with the cover portion thrown back; and Fig. 8 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 3 3, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the table, which is mounted upon suitable legs or supports B. In the space beneath the table A is slidably mounted a drawer C, which is constructed with a sheet-metal lining, as at 0, so that it forms a water-tight receptacle adapted to receive drippings, as hereinafter described. This drawer may be constructed entirely of sheet metal, if desired. Beneath the drawer 0 may be mounted another drawer D, which is adapted to contain table-cloths, napkins, or the like.
The table is provided with an opening a, which is covered by a sheet-metal plate E, perforated, as at c, and adapted to form a drainer. Abox F is mounted upon the table A and embodies vertical sides f, surrounding the draining-plateE and forming an open top. The box F is preferably rectangular, as is the draining-plate E and opening a, and the box is .coextensive with the draining-plate, the latter forming the bottom of the box or inclosure. The box F is suitably subdivided by transverse and longitudinal interior vertical partitions g, which divide the interior area of said box into a number of separate compartments which are adapted to respectively receive and contain dishes, cups, saucers, and similar articles. In the use of the device water will run off from said contained article through the strainer E to the drawerreceptacle 0. In one of the separate compartments a cylindrical tubular holder It may be provided, the office of which is to receive knives, forks, spoons, or the like and retain the same in position for draining.
I designates a box which is adapted to inclose the box F and cover the open top end of the same. The box I is mounted in hinged position, as at j, upon the table A and relative to the box F, the table having a sufticient area at its rear portion to support the cover ing-box I when the latter is turned rearwardly and rested in upright position, as shown in Fig. 3. The top of the box I may be provided with ventilating-openings t', if desired. In its relative dimensions and structure the box I corresponds to the box F, but is not directly hinged to the latter, it being designed to rest separately from the box F when it is out of position over the same. For this purpose the inclosing box I is hinged in such a manner that it can be rested in rear of the box F and at the same time can be brought into position over the same. This hinging is preferably as herein illustrated, the lower rear edge of the box I being hinged at j to the table A, while the front wall 2" of the box I is hinged to the front edge of the top portion of the box, as at 70, so that it can be independently lifted or operated upon its hinge 7.; in the adjustment of the box I on the box F.
If desired, the device may be mounted upon rollers or casters projecting from the legs or supports B. The ventilating-openings in the top may be formed of wire-netting or perforated sheet metal.
The device forms a convenient apparatus for the draining of dishes and other articles and for other analogous household purposes.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent s v p 1. An improved apparatus for draining dishes and similar articles, comprising a table mounted upon supports and having an opening covered by a perforated draining-plate, a box mounted upon the table and surrounding said draining-plate, said box comprising Vertical walls and being adapted to contain the various articles to be drained, and an inclosing box adapted to inclose and cover the draining-box and conforming in general contour and structure thereto, said inclosing box having a hinged connection with the table in such a manner that it can be lifted oi the draining-box, the area of the table in rear of the draining-box being sufficiently extended to adapt it to support the inclosing box when the latter is thrown out of operative position, substantially as set forth.
2. An improved apparatus for draining dishes and other articles, comprising a table mounted upon supports and provided With an opening covered by a perforated drainingplate, a drawer slidably mounted in said table member beneath said opening and forming a draining-receptacle, a box mounted upon the table and embodying vertical walls surrounding the draining-plate, said box being coextensive with the draining-plate and having its interior area subdivided by vertical partitions into separate compartments adapted to receive and retain the various articles to be drained, and an inclosing box adapted to inclose and cover the draining-box and correspondin g in general contour and structure thereto, said inclosing box having a hinged connection with the table so that it is adapted to be lifted over the draining-box, the area of the table in rear of the draining-box being sufficiently extended to support the inclosing box when the latter is out of operative position, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 28th day of February, 1898.
GRAY BON HAM.
