2 Claims. (01. 155-78) This invention relates to an improved folding or collapsible chair for infants, and one of its objects is to provide a chair with means for detachably connecting the same to the side of a table, so that the chair and an infant may be supported on the side of the table.

Another object is to provide an infants chair with a frame which is arranged to fold or collapse, so that it may be stored away in a small space.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a folding infant's chair with a seat which is hinged over a base having a service opening therein, so that the seat may be raised when the infant is required to perform a natural function.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention comprises certain new and useful constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification, and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 2 is a side elevation, on a smaller scale, showing the chair supported on the side of the table.

Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.

Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing the chair supported by a detachable bracket on the side of a table.

Fig. 5 is a top plan view thereof.

Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the bracket shown in Fig. 4.

Referring to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the practical embodiment of the in vention, 5 designates a base board having a large service opening 6 therein. To the upper side of this base board the solid or imperforate seat! is connected at its rear edge by the hinges 8, so as to fold upwardly and rearwardly.

On each side of the base 5 a steel frame bar is arranged, one bar 9 extends along the side of the base 5 and is pivotally connected at its rear end at Ill to the lower corner portion of the back II. The bar l2 on the opposite side is pivotally connected to the opposite lower corner of the back H. The base 5 is secured to the bars 9 and I2 by screws 5' near the rear end of the bars. At a point opposite or near the forward corner 01' the base 5, the steel bar 9 is pivotally connected by the rivet IS with the lateral steel bar M which rivet I 3 secures the bar 9 to the base 5. A diagonal brace bar I5 is also pivotally connected at its forward end with the rivet I3 and is secured by the screw l6 to the side of the back ll at a point above the lower corner thereof, and nearer the top edge thereof.

The upper end of the lateral bar I 4 is pivotally connected by the rivet ll with the upper side steel bar I8, the rear end of which is connected to the screw IS on the back II. A wing nut I9 is threaded on the screw to hold the steel bar l8 and the diagonal brace l 5 clamped on the screw, when the chair is in an open position. The bar I2 is similarly pivotally connected to the lateral bar 20, and the upper end of this lateral bar is pivotally connected by a rivet 2!! with the upper side bar 2|, the rear end of which is connected to the side of the back ll, together with the rear end of the diagonal brace 22, the forward end of which is pivotally connected to the lower end of the lateral brace or bar 20 and to the bar l2, in the manner previously described with reference to the bars 9, l4 and [5. The connection between the brace 22 and the upper side bar 2| is tightened by means of the wing nut 23.

The lower side bars 9 and [2 are extended for wardly of the base 5, and are provided with twisted portions 9a and l2a, and fiat terminal arms 9b and [2b, which have upstanding stops 9c and I20 thereon. The forward ends of the upper side bars l8 and. 21 are similarly constructed, to provide flat arms 18a and 2la, which terminate in stops l8b and 211).

To the lateral bar M the upper end of the link bar 24 is pivotally connected at 2411, and to the lateral bar 20 the upper end of the link 25 is pivotally connected at 2511. The lower ends of these links are pivotally connected with the foot board 28.

The upper side arms i 8 and 2| are engaged with the top edge of the side board 21 of a, conventional table, as shown in Fig. 2, and the end stops 9c and I20 of the lower arms 9 and i2 are engaged with the outer face of this board. Access to the upper edge of the board 21 is obtained by raising the table top which may be hinged or removable. When supported in this manner the entire chair may be disconnected from the table by raising the upper arms from the side board 21. By disconnecting the upper ends of the diagonal braces l5 and 22 the entire chair may be collapsed or folded upon itself. V

In Figs. 4, 5 and 6 we show a modified form of the invention, wherein the chair is supported on a pair of metal brackets 30, which are mounted on the side board 82. Each bracket includes a central wall 33, opposing

34 and 35, and an L-shaped hook flange 36, on the upper edge of the central wall 33. The

side flanges

34 and 35 are formed with opposing upper notches 38 and opposing lower notches 39. The upper notches 38 are engaged by the terminal pins 40 of the upper side bars [8' and 2!, and the lower notches are engaged by the terminal pins 4| of the'lower side bars 9' and 12', which thus support the foldable chair in extended horizontal position, due to the parallel linkage of the upper and lower side bars of the chair, with the cross or lateral bars and the back rest.

In this construction the chair may be disconnected by merely lifting the sidebars from the brackets, and these brackets may be left .in place on the table for repeated future use.

It is understood that various adjustments and changes in the details of construction, their combination and arrangement may he .made, within the scope of the invention, as defined by the claims-hereof.

Having described the invention, we claim as new:

1. A folding infanfis-chair, comprising :a base,

.a .seat supported by the base, a pair of parallel .side bars on each side of the base and so arranged that one lower side bar is located on the level of the base .and the other upper side bar of the same pair is located above the same, a back rest pivotally connected to the rear ends of all said sidebars, means for connecting the lower side bars to the sides of the base, lateral bars pivotally connected Ito the upper side bars and to the lower side bars, respectively, idiagonal braces extending from the .rear ends of the upper side bars to the lower side bars at the point of their connection with the base and means .for connecting and disconnecting, respectively, the rear end of the braces from the respective side bars, so that upon disconnecting one end of the braces the upper side bars and the hack rest may be turned down ubstantially to the level of the seat, said upper .side bars having downwardly extending hooks adapted to be seated :over the side board of :a table with ,a movable top and said lower side bars having bent ends for engaging with the face of the side board.

2. A folding infants chair, comprising a base. a seat supported by the base, a back rest therefor, an upper and lower side bars on each side of the base, pivot means connecting the rear ends of the upper side bar to the back rest, means for connecting the lower side bars to the seat base, diagonal braces extending from the rear ends of the upper side bars to the lower side bars at the points of their connection with the base, lateral bars pivotally connected to the upper side bars and to the lower side bars, means for connecting and disconnecting, respectively, the rear end of the braces from the respective side bars, so that upon disconnecting one end of the braces the upper side bars and the back rest may be turned down substantially to the level of the seat, downwardly projecting hooks on the forward ends of the upper side bars, the downwardly projecting hooks being adapted to engage the upper edge of the side board of a table with a movable top, and upwardly projecting hooks on the lower side bars the upwardly projecting hooks being adapted to have abutting engagement with the outer face of said side board.
