PATENT OFFICE.
SHAVING-CABIINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 786, 574;, dated April 4, 1905.
Application filed November 4, 1903. Serial No. 179,806.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, FRANK I. LINsLEY,acitizen of the United States, residing at Gallipo' lis, in the county of Gallia and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shaving-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in shaving-cabinets; and its object is to provide an adjustable device of this character adapted to contain the various implements required for shaving purposes.
A further object is to provide a cabinet which is attractive in appearance and which occupies the minimum amount of space.
The invention consists in providing a bracket in which is adjustably mounted a slide which is adapted to be locked in adjusted position by means of a clamping-screw, from which a razor-strop is preferably suspended. To this slide is hinged a strip the other end of wtli ich his strip has a receptacle upon the front thereof for the reception of a shaving mug and brush, and a cover is provided for the receptacle and can be extended laterally to form a shelf. A small box for the reception of alum or facepowder is located adjacent the receptacle, and the face-strip is also provided with a mirror and razor-holder anda bracket for a lamp. Paper is suspended in any suitable manner from the face-strip.
The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved shaving-cabinet. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, showing the bracket in section, different positions of the cabinet being illustrated in dotted lines; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the face-strip and the parts connected thereto.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is a bracket adapted to be secured to any suitable support, and mounted therein is a preferably L-shaped slide 2, which is adapted to be secured in adjusted position by means of a clamping-screw 3. A razor-strop may, if desired, be suspended from this clamping-screw. Hinged to one end of the slide 2 is a strip 5, the other end of which is hinged to the face-strip 6 of the-cabinet. This face-strip may be suitably ornamented and is provided with a receptacle 7 for the reception of a shaving mug and brush. A sliding cover 8 is arranged on the receptacleand is adapted to be slid laterally to form a shelf while the cabinet is in use.
Abox 9 is arranged on the face-strip adjacent the receptacle 7 and is utilized for the reception of face-powder or alum, and a mirror 10 is secured to the face-strip at a suitable point above the receptacle 7. A bracket 11 is fastened to the face-strip at a suitable point thereon and is used for securing a razor in position. This bracket is preferably formed of leather or other durable flexible material. A tray 12 extends from the face-strip at a point near the mirror and serves to support a suitable lamp, and a rod 13 is revolubly mounted upon the strip 6 near the lower end thereof and has arms 14 at the ends thereof for engaging a roll 15, of paper.
The face-strip 6 is normally folded upon the bracket 1. When it is desired to use the cabinet, the face-strip is swung outward into the position illustrated in Fig. 1, and if the mirror 10 is not at the desired level the slide 2 can be adjusted vertically within the bracket 1.
It will be seen that a cabinet constructed in the manner herein described forms a convenient article of furniture and holds the various implements at points where they are readily accessible by the user.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A shaving-cabinet comprising a support having a bracket secured thereto, a slide provided with a vertical arm having a horizontal ICO arm rigidly secured at right angles therewith, the horizontal arm being provided at one end with an intermediate arm hinged in a straight line thereto, a cabinet having a plurality of receptacles thereon, an arm secured to the rear portion of said cabinet having a straight projecting end which is hinged in a direct line with the other or opposite end of the intermediate arm, said vertical arm of the slide being adjustably mounted in the bracket so as to raise or lower the cabinet by means of the horizontal arm, means on the bracket ,for securing the cabinet when in a raised or lowered position, and said intermediate arm serving in connection with the horizontal arm to fold the cabinet fl;sh against the hereinbeforle-mentoned support, substantially as specifiec.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
