Description
G. W. EVERETT. Skirt-Exhibitor.
No. 202,713. Patented April 23,1878.
m R 0 m A UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. EVERETT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND BYRON D. ADAMS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SKIRT-EXHIBITORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,713, dated April 23, 1878; application filed September 22, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEoEcE W. EVERETT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Skirt- Holder, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent side elevations of my improved skirt-holder, showing it respectively in position for supporting the skirt and as folded up for being stored away.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention is designed to furnish for ladies, dress-makers, dry-goods stores, and other places, an improved skirt holder or stand that may be readily put up for use, and conveniently folded together into narrow space for being packed into a trunk for traveling, or otherwise stored away.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a folding tripod or stand, which guides in an upper and lower sleeve, a, "the center post or pillar B of my skirt-holder. The hinged legs I) of the tripod are pivoted, in the usual manner, to the upper sleeve a, while the lower sleeve a is supported on short pivot arms or braces b, that extend from the sleeve to fixed clips or clamps b of the legs b, and serve to lock the hinged legs in fixed position.
The center post B is rigidly secured by clamp-screws d to the sleeves a, and adjusted at any desired height, according to the length of the skirt to be supported.
The post B supports at the upper end a sectional head-piece, O, which is made either of a fixed and a movable section, or of two movable sections, that are guided outwardly on a slotted horizontal arm, 0, and adjusted thereon by clamp-screws e to the size of the waist of the skirt.
The head-piece C is provided with an outwardly-flaring flange, D, of brass or other suitable material, on which the waist of the skirt is supported, the skirt itself falling in natural folds from the same, and being by the use of the holder kept in better shape.
When the skirt-holder is to be packed into atrunk or stored away, the clamp-screws d are loosened, and the center post slid down in the same until the head-piece forms contact with the upper sleeve. The legs of the tripod are then folded up to the center post, and the device is thus .brought within a convenient and compact space for packing, storing, and shipping, being thereby of great convenience to ladies in traveling, and for business purposes of all kinds, as skirts and dresses may be exhibited, and the holders folded up and stored away after use, without taking up a large space.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A ladys skirt holder provided with an adjustable waist-block and retaining-flanges, as shown and described.
GEORGE W. EVERETT.
