COMBINATION-CABINET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 328,061, dated October 13, 1885.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, STEPHEN R. POTTER, of Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Combination-Cabinet, of which the following is a full, clear, 'and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to cabinets for harnessmakers and hostlers uses; and the object of my invent-ion is to produce a cabinet which shall be simple, neat, compact, and durable in construction, and most conveniently arranged for the uses to which it is to be devoted.

To the above purposes my invention consists in certain peculiar and novel features of construction and arrangement pertaining to the cabinet itself, and also to certain peculiar and novel attachments therefor, all as hereinafter described and claimed.

In order that my invention maybe fully understood I will proceed to describe it with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cabinet. Fig. 2isa transverse vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same.

In the said drawings, A designates four legs or supports, the lower ends of which rest upon the ground and the upper ends of which are curved inwardly, and are connected together by an open circular frame, F. The legs A and the circular piece F constitute the main supporting-frame of the cabinet.

B, O, and D designate, respectively, the bottom, sides, and top of the large central com; partment of the cabinet. This compartment is intended to hold general supplies used by the hostler or harness-maker, and is provided at one end with two hinged doors, E E, by means of which access is had to the interior of the compartment. At its top this compartment is secured to the contiguous parts of the supports in any suitable manner, as indicated in Fig. 1, and the bottom B extends outward beyond the sides 0, so as to form a ledge, and is suitably secured to the supports A.

G designates a compartment for holding oiling materials.- This compartmentis of rootangular form, of greater depth than width, and is secured upon the outer sides of two of the supports A, on a level with the top of the central compartment. Access is bad to this compartment by means of its cover H, which is hinged to the contiguous edge of the top D.

I J designate a double compartment, which is located upon the opposite side of the cabinet from the compartment G. This compartment I J is of rectangular form, greater in height than in depth, and is secured to theframe similarly to the compartment G. The top K of this compartment is hinged to the edgeof the top D, and its outer side, L, is hinged to its bottom, so that by raising the top access may be had to the upper compartment, and by partially raising the top and turning down the front access may be had to both compartments. The top K is provided on the outer part of its under side with a bead, which overhangs the upper edge of the front L, so as to secure the latter in closed condition. The upper compartment is designed to hold soap, while the lower compartment, J, is designed to hold cloths and sponges.

Upon the rear end of the device is placed a compartment which contains a receptacle, M, for polishing materials, and beneath this two drawers, N N, for rivets, buckles, 8m. This compartment is of rectangular shape, greater in height than in depth, and at its top is provided with a cover, 0, hinged upon the edge of the top D, said cover aflordin g access to the receptacle M.

designates a tube, which is placed in vertical position in one corner of the interior of the central compartment and extends up through the top D. At its upper end this tube is provided with a collar, Q, through which works a radial set-screw, R.

S designates a rod, which sets into the upper end of the tube 1?, and which is held at any point of vertical adjustment therein by passes into an eye upon the rod S. The outer ends of the rods T, near hooks W, are connected by a rod, V, each end of which is bent down and enters an eye upon the correspondmg rod near W.

The open circular frame F is designed to receive a waterapail, Z, and to support it at such a distance above the top D that an oil lamp or stove may be set upon the top and beneath the bucket, so as to heat the water in the latter.

The is suspended from the hooks W W, and during the operation of cleaning or oiling the harness it may be swung around by the frame, so as to hang opposite any of the compartments which contain the materials to be used. A double harness is to be swung from both of the hooks WV, while a single harness is to be swung only from one hook, so that the frame will support two single harnesses. When only one harness is to be cleaned, the rod VInay be removed and the two rods T brought close together.

The supporting-frame may be held rigidly, so as not to turn by binding the clamp-screw Y upon the inner ends of the rods T.

X X designate two hooks, which are suspended from the rods '1, and are designed to hold each a lantern i'or illumination.

The compartments may be made either wholly or partially of wood or metal, and such is also true 01' the support for the cabinet and for the harness. Thus it will be seen that the cabinet is compact, neat, and durable in construction, and constitutes a convenient article for hostlers and harness-makers use.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The improved cabinet herein described, consisting of the supports A, frame F, the central compartment, 13 O I), having the doors E, the compartment G, having the top H, the compartment I J, having the top K and front L, and the compartment having the receptacle M .i-nd drawers N N, and also the top 0, all constructed and arranged as set forth.

2. The combination, with the supports A and frame F, of the compartment B O D, and the compartments G, I, J, M, andN N, asset forth.

3. The combination, with the compartment 13 (J D, having the tube P, with its collar Q, and screw R, and the compartments G, 'I, J, M, and N, of the supports A, frame F, and the rod S, having the screw Y, the rods T, having the hooks W, the rods U, and the rods V, as specified.
