Description

A. I ZARUS` ELASTIC WASTBAND FOR TROUSERS.
APPLsCATmN. mm mail, 1914.

ALBERT LAzARUs,
ELASTICI WAISTBAND FOR TROUSERS.
Application filed August 21, 15174.
To all 10710122 it may concern A Be it known that I, ALBERT LAzARUs, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York. in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Elastic Taistbands for Trousers, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to waist bands for trousers, and the object thereof is to provide a pair of trousers with a waist band which is partially or wholly made of elastic material and which will securely hold the trousers in place without the necessity of using buckles, straps, suspenders or other devices of this class.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part., in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure l is a front view of the top part of a pair of trousers provided with my improved waist band; Fig. 2 a side view looking in the direction of the arrow 2 in Fig. l; Fig. 3 a view of a fabric sheet having both warp and woof cords of elastic material which cross each other at right angles and from which a waist band may be cut on the Ibias, so that the waist band will have elastic cords running diagonally in both directions and crossing each other at right angles; Fig. -l a view showing a waistband provided with elastic cords which run longitudinally thereof only: Fig. 5 a view similar to Fig. 4 but showing a waist band having elastic cords which run diagonally in both directions and which cross each other at right angles; and Fig. 6 a section on the line 6 6 of Fig. It.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, I have shown at aI the top part of a pair of trousers and at' Z) my improved waist band, reference being made to Figs. 1 and and in the construction shown, the front part b2 of the waist band, extending between the side seams a2 of the trousers, is composed of elastic material, while the back part b3 of said waist band is composed of non-elastic material. The waist band is not open at the back in the usual manner, but is Specification of Letters Patent.
of course open at the front, as is indicated at bt, and the end portions thereof are connected by buttons c or in any other suitable way and if at any time it is desired to make the trousers smaller or larger around the waist, the back seam, not shown, may be opened for this purpose. My invention, however, is not limited to a waist band, only the front part of which is composed of elastic material and the elastic waist band may extend entirely around the trousers, if desired.
In Fig. 3, I have shown at l a fabric sheet which is preferably of the saine material as the trousers and it contains elastic cords which cross each other at right angles the same as the warp and woof threads of any fabric and in practice, a waist band may be cut-from this sheet on the bias, as indicated by the lines (Z2 and when the waist band is made in this manner, it will have elastic cords which range diagonally thereof in both directions as indicated at (Z3 and Zt in Fig. 5, or the waist band b may be made as shown in Fig. 4, if desired, in which the elastic cords extend only longitudinally of said band. In Fig. 3, the elastic cords are indicated as in Fig. 5, by the reference char? acters d3 and d* or in heavy black lines and in Fig. i they are indicated by the reference characters '035 only.
My improved waist band may be made from the fabric sheet Z and cut wide enough to be folded longitudinally as shown in Fig. 6, or it may have a lining of .any suitable material and the lining may be cut on the bias to give it the desired elasticity. A Waist band made in this manner will securely hold the trousers in position without the use of buckles and straps, suspenders, or any other device of this class, and my invention is not limited to any particular method of weaving the fabric from which the waist band is made, the method shown in Fig. 3 and method of cutting the waist band also shown in Fig. 3 and hereinbefore described, being preferred; and I also prefer that the front portion of the waist band only, as shown in Figs. l and be made elastic.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A pair of trousers provided with a Waistband of which that partl only which eX- ateniese-eueeef-,19151 tends from the side seams of the trousers as my invention I haveY signed myname in forffardly, is composed of elastic material presence of the subscribing Witnesses this divided at the front to forni independent 19th day of August, 1914.
