Description
L. LAWRENC E.' NURSING BRASSIERE.
APPLICATION FILED Jun/9.1915.
Patented July 4, 1916.
' INVEIVATOR Lilylawmflaa A TTOR/VEYS LILY LAWRENCE. OF VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA.
NURSING-BRASSIERE.
Specification of Letters latent.
Application filed July 9, 1915. Serial No. 38,861.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, LILY LAIWRENGE, a c1t1- zen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Vancouver, in the Province of British lumbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nursing-Brassieres, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a nursing brassiere which has been particularly desi ed to protect the clothing of a nursing mot er.
The invention is particularly described in the following specification, reference being made to the drawings by which it is accompanied, in which:
Figure 1 shows the form of the brassiere from the inner side, and Fig. 2 shows one endof it from the outside.
The device comprises a back portion 2 of any suitable fabric, the upper and lower edges of which are parallel and of a depth to extend from the waist to the level of the upper part of the breast and the ends 3 to which the front portions 4: are connected are angled to conform to the figure of the wearer when passed around the body. To each end 3 of this back portion 2 is attached a portion 4 of thin water-proof material, the depth of which is approximately the same i as the back, and the length such as will encircle the bust and overlap slightly for attachment in front. The upper edges of the ends of 3 and 4, where they are connected together at 3, are shaped to pass under the armpits, and to the upper edge of each adjacent the connection, shoulder straps 5 of any suitable light material are attached. From the upper edge of each front portion 4 adjacent the middle of the breast a slit 6 is cut downward and a flap7 of water-proof material is secured to the inner edge 8 of the slit to amply underlap the other edge. The lower edge or waist line of the device has a draw tape 9 by which it may be secured around the waist, and along the upper edges of the portions 4, as shown at 10,
a draw tape 11 is secured. The front edgesv of 4 may be secured together between these draw tapes 9 and 11 by a dome fastener 12 or other suitable device.
being made of water-proof material with a flap extending across each slit the clothing is fully protected. It therefore forms'a useful article of wear for any nursing mother. 7
. Patented July 4,1916.
is comfortable to wear, supplementing the customary corset or girdle.
, Having now particularly described my invention, I hereby declare that what I claim as new and desire to be protected in by Letters Patent, is:
1. A nursing brassiere, comprising a back portion of light ordinary fabric, and a front portion composed wholly of light waterproof material connected to each end of the back portion along the sides proper of the brassiere at an angle to conform the device to the figure 'of the wearer, each front portion being slit from the upper edge downward over the middle of the breast, and a flap connected to one edge of the slit and under-lapping the other edge, shoulder straps attached to the upper edge of the front and back portions, and means for securing the lower edge around the waist, and means for securing the upper-edge around the bust of the wearer.
2. A nursing brassiere, comprising a back portion of light ordinary fabric, and a front portion composed wholly of light waterproof material connected to each end of the back portion along the sides proper of the brassiere at an angle to conform the device to the figure of the wearer, each front portion being slit from the upper edge downward over the middle of the breast, and a flap connected to'one edge of the slit and under-lapping the other edge, shoulder straps attached to the upper edge of the front and back portions, means for securing the front edges together, means for tightening the lower edge around the waist and means for tightening the upper edge around the bust of the wearer.
3. A nursing brassiere, comprising a back portion of light ordinary fabric, and a front portion composed wholly of light waterproof material connected to each end of the back portion along the sides proper of the brassiere at an angle to conform the device to the figure of the wearer, each front portion being slit from the upper edge'downward over themiddle of the breast, and a flap connected to one edge of the slit and under-lapping the other edge, shoulder straps fafiached to the upper edge of the front and back portions, a draw tape secured in each upper edge adjacent the connection of the shoulder straps thereto and endwise' slidable in the upper edge, a draw tape endwise slidable in the lower edge of the connected front and back portions, and means for securing the front edges together between the 1G draw tapes.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
