The preferred form of the inventive idea embodies a frame, which, as shown, comprises the sides 1 and ends 2; these sides and ends result from the provision of the opening 3, the dimensions of the parts mentioned being capable of variation in the production of racks of different sizes adapted to hold stamps of various sizes and in various numbers.

As shown particularly in Fig. 1 two of the racks are positioned, one above the other, on the top portion 4 of a desk, extending downwardly therefrom, the racks being held together by means of rods or equivalent elements 5; the number of racks occupying such a relation may be increased in order to take care of stamps of different sizes, in which event the Widths of the openings 3 may vary.

Specification of Letters Batent.

As shown particularly in Fig. 2, theracks, e1ther;one.as;in. thisfigure or a plurality as in Fig, l may bemounted on top of a desk or. table 6 beingsupported, in. such position by .theaforementioned rods 5; the particular manner .of supporting the rack is, of course, immaterial. l

Extending longitudinally of the edge portions of the opening 3 in the frame are resilient members? which may be made of rubbenorsimilar material; in order to hold these members in position the sides 1 may be conveniently: made ofsheet material folded along 'a median line whereby a. pocket 8 is formed into which the member is placed, the foldedunaterial being then compressed with consequent, retentionof the member therein; such construction issimple and affords a manner of .manufacture which is low in cost. It is not essential that these resilient members extend along both' edges of the said opening; as shown particularly in Fig. l one such member may be positioned adjacent one edge, the other edge being rounded or chamfered whereby passage of the handle 9 of the stamp or other article adjacent such edge is facilitated. In this figure the side 1 is provided with an extension 1 which may be folded as shown thereby closing the pocket formed by the bending of the material of which the side is made; a solid piece of material may be employed, if so desired, the edge portion thereof which comes adjacent the said opening being similarly shaped.

Referring now to Figs. 5 and 6 it will be seen that when the handle of the article is entered into the opening in the frame that the resilient member or members 7 are bent, whereby passage of the handle is permitted, these members returning to normal position after the portion of the handle of lesser width comes adjacent thereto, because of the nature of the material from which these members are made; the said members are of sufficient stiffness to support the articles (as shown in Fig. 2) after the reduced portions of the handles come into engagement therewith. Such manner of operation requires that the normal width of the opening in the frame be greater than the greatest Width of the handle of the article, and that the distance which the said resilient member projects into the opening be such that the final width of the oaening be less than the greatest width of sue. handle.

Various modified structures will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art; in Figs. 7 and 8 one modification is set forth which embodies the use of flexible and resilient members 10 adjacent the opening 8, which members are in the nature of springs of helical form and which have been flattoned. The particular forms of the sides 1 and ends 2 of the frame are unchanged, the pockets 8 in the sides receiving and retaining the said springs. The operation of these members 10 is not unlike that of the rubber members 7, since the entrance of a handle into the opening flexes certain turns of the springs which operate in a manner analogous to the first mentioned members 7 while two springs are shown in the drawings it is, of course, clear that only one may be used as set forth when the preferred form of the invention was being described.

The material of which the parts of the frame is made is of no consequence so long as such part possesses the necessary rigidity for efficient use. p

Vhat I claim as my invention is- 1. A stamp rack comprising parts arranged to provide an elongated opening between them of a width suificient-to receive the stamp handles and of a length suflicient to receive a plurality of stamp handles, one of said parts having flexible resilient holding means extending longitudinally thereof and projecting into said opening, said holding means being adapted to yield to permitthe ends of stamp handles to be passed through the opening and serving to yieldingly hold handles which have been passed through the opening.

2. A stamp rack comprising in combination with a suitable support, a substantially rectangular frame having end members and parallel side members, said side members being each composed of a metallic strip bent upon itself *to provide a Ushaped channel and a resilient member disposed within each of said channel members and having a portion extending laterally beyond the mouth thereof, said resilient members being secured throughout their entire length within their respective channel members.
