HOLDINGw-RAGK FOR CHECKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 783,478, dated February 28, 1905.
Application filed August 20,1904. Serial No. 221.573.
Z?) a. whom it Ill/(LU cone/l eu Be it known that I, Josie en E. STRAUSS, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Chicago,
in the county of Cook and State of Illinois,
have invented a certain new and useful lmprovement in Holding-Racks for Cheeks, &c., of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to holding-racks for checks and the like, and has for its object to provide a new and improved device of this description.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a plan view 01 a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Fig. Q. Figs. 4 and 5 are views showing parts of the device before being assembled.
Like letters refer to like parts throughout the several iigures.
The device herein shown is made of sheet metal; and it consists of a series of separated parts adapted to be assembled into a complete device. A. series of pieces 01 sheet metal are cut the proper size and are bent into a cylindrical shape, so as to form the holding-pieces A. This holding-piece is-open at the side, as shown at A, the opening being less in width than the inside diameter of the holding part. The edges of the holding part are bent atan angle to the body portion, so as to project outwardly, as shown at A thus providing each holding part with two substantially parallel projecting ribs or parts. These holding-pieces are provided at the top with laterally-projecting 'lasteniug- 'iieees A and at the bottom with similar fastcning-pieces A". 'lhese holding pieces are then inserted between the top and bottom plates O and .l) and are suitably spaced. A series of ctmnectingpieces B are inserted between the holding-pieces. These connecting-pieces, as shown, are curved, so that when assembled a curved periphery is formed. Said connecting-pieces are provided with laterallyprojecting ribs B, which engage the ribs A on the holding-piece A, and the two sets of ribs may be soldered together, if desired. The connecting-pieces B are provided at the top with lateral fastening-pieces B which prefin assembling the parts.
erably project inwardly, and at the bottom with similar fasteningpieces B. \V hen these fastening-pieces are used, they are riveted or otherwise fastened to the top and bottom O and l). The fastening-pieces A. and A are also similarly attached to the top and bottom, and thus the various parts are held in position. The top and bottom are connected to gether in any suitable manner -as, for exam ple, by rods E. It is of course evident that when the iastening-pieces are used it is unnecessary to solder the ribs A and B together. As shown in the (.lrawings,'the top and bottom pieces are provided with projecting parts O I), and the attaching pieces A and A and B and B are provided with holes into which these projections are received The parts are then held in position by the rods E. \Vhen these attaching parts are omitted, the parts are held together in any other desired manner, as by means of solder. The ribs B are preferably inclined inwardly, and the ribs A are also slightly inclined, so that when in engagement a binding effect will be secured and the connecting-pieces B cannot be withdrawn laterally.
The top O is provided with openings which correspond in diameter to the inner diameter of the holding'pieces A. The bottom piece I) is provided with slots 1), less in cross-sectional area than the holders A, so that the checks or other devices may rest on the bottom and be held in place and may yet be easily removed by inserting the finger in the opening I) and moving it u 'iward along the opening A.
The device, if desired, may be romtably mounted upon a base i by means ola rod i passing through the base and through the bottom 1). I have also shown the device provided with the pockets (:lr and the handlell.
The device, shown, is therefore made up of a series of elements, one set of said elements acting as holding parts, another set acting as connecting parts, said elements provided with means for holding them in proper position and alinement and adapted to be assembled about a center.
I have described in detail a particular eonstruction embodying my invention; but it is of course evident that the parts may be varied without departing from the spirit thereof, and I therefore do not limit myself to the particular construction shown.
I claim* 1. A holding-rack for checks, 860., comprising a series of separate inflexible holdingpieces, a series of separate connecting-pieces between the rigidly-holding pieces, and means for holding said several pieces in the proper relative position.
2. A holding-rack for checks, &c., comprising a series of holding-pieces each provided with a slot or opening extending from the top to the bottom, a laterally-projecting rib on each side of said slot, a series of connectingpieces between said holding-pieces each provided with laterally-projecting ribs adapted to engage the ribs of the holding-pieces, a top and bottom piece between which said several pieces are received, and means for holding the pieces in proper position.
3. A holding-rack for checks, &c. comprising a series of cylindrical holding-pieces open at the top and bottom and provided with a longitudinal slot, an engaging face on each sideof said slot, a series of intermediate curved con necting-pieces spanning the space between the holding-pieces and provided with engaging faces which cooperate with the engaging faces on the holding-pieces, and a top and bottom piece between which said holding-pieces and connecting-pieces are clamped.
4%. A holding-rack for checks, &c., comprising a series of holding-pieces bent into cylindrical form with their edges separated so as to form slots, said edges bent at an angle to the body of the holding-pieces so as to form angular engaging parts, a series of connectingpicces between the holding-pieces provided with angular projecting parts which engage the angular projecting parts on the holdingpieces, laterally projecting fasteningpieces on the holding-pieces, and a top and bottom plate between which said pieces are received.
5. A holding-rack for checks, &c., comprising a series of separate holding-pieces, each having a slot extending throughout its length,a series of separate connecting-pieces between the holding-pieces, a top and bottom piece between which the holding-pieces and connecting-pieces are received so as to be rigidly held against relative movement.
