* 8 1' A FIRM COMPOSED 0F EDWARD H. WISE, LEO H. WISE, AND HENRY E.
OVERALLS.
ll,1ld5,55.
To all whom it may concern: 0
Be it known that l, LEO H. WISE, a cltizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the State of New York, have 1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls, of which thefollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in overalls and has for its object to provide an improved construction of garment of this character, comprising trousers and acket portions, whereby the trousers portlon may be worn with or without the jacket and when worn with the jacket an undue amount of material above the waist line and at the front will be avoided.
Another object of the invention 1s to provide a two piece overall comprislng trousers and jacket p0rtions,-the trousers portion having a bib at the front whlch extends upwardly from the waist band and the acket portion having a cut-out at the front mto which the bib projects and to provide fastenings to secure the bib to the jacket.
A further object is to provlde a two plece overall,-the trousers portion of which has a bib and the j acket-portion a cut-out to receive the bib and to provide fastenings along the lapped edges of the cut-out and bib.
With these and other objects in view, the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein,-
Figure 1, shows a front v1ew of the two piece garment,-the trousers and acket portion being connected at bib and cut-out portions. Fig. 2 illustrates the detached jacket in front elevation. Fig. 3, shows the upper bib-portion of the trousers also in front elevation, and Fig. 4: shows a rear view of the trousers and a rear view of a portion of the jacket and further illustrates the shoulder straps for holding the rearof the trousers Referring to the drawing by numerals 5, designates the jacket front, and 6, the back thereof. The front of the acket has a central vertical lapped portion 7, which extends downwardly a short distance only from the collar 8, so the two sides of said front may be secured in a central lapped condition by suitable fastenings 9. The lower edge 10, of this central vertical lapped portion terminates well above the lower edge 11, of the back 6, and from said edge 10, the front has downwardly extending and outwardly di- Specification of Letters Patent.

verging edges 12, which forma front cutout. Both of these diverging front edges 12, are preferably provided with fastening members, which, in the present instance, have the form of buttonholes 13. Sleeves 14, are provided in the jacket to complete that garment portion.
"The trousers 15, have the usual legs 16, and front fly 17, and are also provided with vertical slits 18, at opposite sides which slits may be closed by means of buttons 19, or equivalent fastenings attached to the two edges of the slits. A reinforcing band 20, preferably extends across the front from one slit to the other. A bib 21, extends upwardly at the front of the trousers portion from the band 20, and said bib has a shape substantially corresponding to the shape of the cut-out in the front of the jacket. In the present instance, the opposite edges 22, of the bib extend upwardly in an inclined direction from the band 20, and, if extended far enough would converge, and each of said inclined edges of this bib is provided with fastening members, such as buttons 23, which may be engaged with the coacting fastenings or buttonholes 13, in thediverging front edges 12, of the jacket.
From the foregoing explanation it will be understood that the bib portion 21, at the upper front edge ofthe trousers fits into and preferably underlaps, the edges of the out out at the front of the jacket, and said edges are joined or fastened by means of the fastoning members 13 and 23, so that the bib is secured to the jacket along the inclined lapped edges. The rear edge 24, of the trousers has position above the lower rear edge 11, of the jacket so that the jacket edge at the rear will depend below the trousers edge. At the rear, the jacket edge 11, is free so as to give a freedom of movement of the body that would otherwise be restricted. Suitable suspender straps 25, have rear ends detachably connected to the rear edge of the trousers, and may be passed over the shoulders so that their front ends can be attached to fastenings 26, on the upper edge of the front bib.
By means of the construction described, the two pieces of the garment may be'worn together, or the jacket may be left off, but
I when the jacket is worn with the trousers,
the bib will be held in place and prevented from bulging when leaning over or stooping,
and a double thickness of jacket and bib at the front will be avoided.
Having thus described my invention what 1. A two piece overall garment comprising jacket and trousers,-the jacket having a cut-out at the front and the trousers having a bib portion that extends up into the jacket cutout, and means for holding the bib up into said front cut-out of the jacket.
2. A two piece overall garment comprising jacket and trousers, the jacket having a cut-out at the front and the trousers having a bibportion that extends up into the jacket cut-out and means 'on the edges of the cut-out and the bib to secure the bib to the jacket.
3. A t'wo'piece overall garment comprising jacket and tro'users, the jacket having a. central vertical lapped front portion extending downwardlv from the upper edge and terminatin' well above the rearof the 'acket and from t e lower edge of the lappe portion said front of the jacket having a cut-
