T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOHN TAYLOR, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing in -Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of MissourL/'have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Humidors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in humidors particularly adapted for moistening cigars. v
One of the objects of my invention is to .provide a humidory which will discharge moisture near 'the bottom of the case in which it may be placed. As the moist air is usually /warmer than the air in the case, it will rise vafter its discharge from the humidor, therebyeflecting an even distribution l of the moisture.
Another object of my invention is to provide a humidor from which either moist or dry air may be discharged into the case containing the cigars.
Still another object of my invention is to provide novel means for regulating the amount of moisture Tor dry air which is discharged from the humidor. j Still another object of my invention is to provide a humidor which vis ornamental in appearance, is easily operated and'lzwhich` of any desired form', and which, in the drawing, is shown rectangular. s L

and -which is provided with an upwardly.
. 'and inwardly extending hollow dome 3 into which is fitted, preferably 1oosely, theupper end of a tubular projection 4 with which the upper side of the base 1 is provided.
The periphery of the tubular projection '4 is provided with an annular shoulder 5 upon which the receptacle 2 is adapted to rest.
The -upper side of the base 1 is provided with two lugs 6 to which are respectively secured the lower ends oftwo upstanding spring catches 7 having on their inner sides rounded projections 8 respectively adapted to enter two recesses 9, which are provided in the outer sides of opposite walls of. said receptacle. The spring catches 7 releasably fasten the receptacle 2 to the base 1.
The upper end of the receptacle 2is open 'and discharges into an outer casing 10 which incloses the receptacle 2 and is spaced apart therefrom at the sides and top, thereby forming a passage 11 through which moisture may pass from the receptacle 2.
The lower end of the. casing 10 is open,
but is normally4 closed by the base 1 upon whichthe casing rests and to which it isreleasably fastened by two spring catches 12, similar to the catches 7 and respectively secured to the inner sides of two upstanding flanges 13 with which the base 1 near its side edges is provided. The casing 10 at opposite outer sides is provided respectively with two recesses 14 adapted to respectively receive two rounded projections provided respectively on the inner sides of the catches 12 and designated by 15.
To prevent the receptacle 2 turning on the base 1, said receptacle is provided on the inner-side of the dome 3 with a projection 16 adapted to enter a notch 17 in the upper edge of the tubular projection 4.

and base .1 forms a heating chamber in which is located a heating device, preferably an electric lamp 18, the wires 19 of which extend throughjacentral hole 20 in the base land are connected to a suitable current source, not shown.'
The b ase 1 is provided inside the tubular projection 4 with a plurality of vertical oles. 21 through which heated air from the heating chamber may pass. The base 1 is also provided with a plurality of vertical holes 22, located outside the projection 4 and communicating with the passage 11 by means of a space provided between the receptacle 2 and the base 1.
A horizontal disk valve` 23 is centrally l air mixed with dry air, the valve 23 is pivoted to the under side of the/ base 1, and is provided with a laterally projecting handle 24, which extends through a notch 25V provided in a downwardly extending ange 26 on the under side of the base l. The side walls of the notch 25 limit the movement in both directions of the handle 24 and valve 23. Said valveA 23 is provided with two circular rows of vertical holes 27 and 28 adapted respectively to register with the holes 21' and 22. The disposition of said holes 27 and 28 is such that when one'set of holes are in register with one set of holes in the base 1, the other set of holes will be out of register with the other set of holes in the base. By properly positioning the valve 23, the hole 21 may be wholly closed while the holes 22 are wholly open. When so arranged, moisture caused bythe heating of water in the receptacle 2, will pass out the open top of the receptacle, thence downwardly through the passage 11, and thence under the receptacle 2 and through the holes 22 and v28. From undern thel base 1, the moisture will pass by way of the notch 25 and similar notches 29, provided in .the lower edges of other downwardly extending marginal anges 30, with which the base is provided. If dry air is desiredto be discharged into the case,the valve 23 is turned to a position in which'the holes 27 will register with the holes 21. Dry air will then pass from the heating chamber to the lower side of the base 1, and from thence being discharged into the case by way of the notches 25 and 29. At such time. the valve 23 will close the openings 22, so that no moisture will pass from thevhumidor into theV case containing it. If moisture is to be discharged into the case, the valve 23 is turned so that the holes 28 will register with the holes 22. At this time the valve 23 will close the holes 21 and no air from the heatingchamberV canl pass from the humidor. Thelamp 18 will heat the water in the receptacle, thus driving off' moisture which will pass from the receptacle 2,'by
way ofthe passage 11 to the openings'22 and-28, 'thence passing through these openings and escaping by way of the notches 25 and 29 into the case. As the moisture is discharged from the bottom of the humidor, instead of from thetop thereof, there will be a more even distribution ofthemoisture in the case than could otherwise be eiected. In case-that itis desired to discharge moist turned so that the openings 27anda28 `respectively communicate with thel openings 21 and 22. By proper regulation of the valve, the desired mixture may-be obtained.
.It will be obvious that my improved humldor may be "used for various other pur-l poses than the moistenin of cigars.
If desired, the side wa s ofthe receptacle outer casing 2 and of the casing 10, and the top of the casing 10, mayhave advertising matter or other display matter inscribed thereon,
which will ,be illuminated by the lamp 18.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may bel made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

In a humidor, a base having an opening communicating with the atmosphere, an outer casing having an open lower end closed by said base and communicating with said opening, a water receptacle inclosed by and having an opening for discharging moisture into said outer casing, and provided with an inwardly extending hollow dome forming with said base a heating chamber, said base having an opening communicating with the atmosphere and with said heating chamber,
and a heating device in said chamber.

In a humidor, a -base having an opening communicating with the atmosphere, an havingr an open lower end closed by said base and 'communicating with said opening, a water receptacle inclosed by and having anopening for discharging moisture into said outer casing, and provided with an inwardly extending hollow dome forming with said base a heating chamber, the base having an opening com'-` municating with the atmosphere and with said heating chamber, a valve controlling the last named opening, and a heating device in said chamber.

In a humidor, a base having an opening communicating with the atmosphere, an outer casing having an open lower end closed by said base, a water receptacle inclosed by and spaced apart at the sides and top from said outer casing, said receptacle having an opentop and provided with an inwardly extending hollowA dome forming with said base a heating chamber, the space between the casing and receptacle communicating with said opening in the base, the base having an opening communicating with the atmosphere and with said chamber, and a heating ,device in said chamber.
In a humidor, a base having two openings communicating with the atmosphere, an outer casing havingl an open lower-end closed by said base and communicating with one of said openings, a valve adapted to close one of said openings, a water receptacle inclosed by and having an opening for discharging moisture into said youter casing, and provided with an inwardly extending hollow dome forming' with said base a heating chamber, one of the openings in the base communicating with said heating chamber, and a heating device in said chamber.
8. Ina humidor, a base having two openings communicating with the atmosphere, a
valve for controlling said openings and arranged to be closed with respect to one opening, 'while it is open with respect to the other opening, an outer casing having an open lower end closed by said base and communicating with one of said openings, a water receptacle inclosed by and having an opening discharging into said outer casing, and .provided with an inwardly extending holllow dome forming with said base a heating;

In a humidor, a water-receptacle having an inwardly extending hollow. dome, an outer casing inclosing said receptacle and into which the receptacle is adapted to discharge molsture, said receptacle and casing forming a passage for moisture leading downwardly in the casing, a base supporting said receptacle and casing and forming with said dome a heating chamber, the base having two openings communicating with the atmosphere and communicating respectively with said passage and with said cham-l ber, and a heatmg devicein said chamber.

In a humidor, a water receptacle having an inwardly extending hollow dome, an outer casing inclosing said receptacle and into which thereceptacle is adapted'to discharge moisture, the receptacle and casing passage :for moisture leading ing-theV receptacle and casing and :forming with said dome a heating chamber, the base having two openings communicating respectively with said passage and With said chamber and communicating with the atmosphere, a heating device in said chamber, and a valve controlling said openings and arranged to be open with respect to one opening while it is closed with respect to the other opening.

In a humidor, a water receptacle hav-- ing an inwardly extending hollow dome, an outer casing inclosing said receptacle and into which the receptacle is adapted to discharge moisture, the receptacle and casing forming a passage for moisture leading downwardly in the casing,l a base supporting said receptacle and casing and forming with the dome a heating chamber, the base having a downwardly extending supporting lange provided with a notch in its' lower edge, the base having ltwo openings vertically therethrough communicating with the passage and chamber respectively, a heating device in said chamber, and a valve pivoted to the underside of said base and having a handle extending through said notch, the
side walls of said notch being adapted to two subscribing witnesses.`
