UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NATALE MARTINO, PHILIP FRASCA, AND JOI-IN E. OSTER, OF NEW YORK,`N. Y.
HUMIDOR. i
\ Appnauon filed July 13,
Our invention relates to .improvements in humidors and the object oi' our invention is to produce a simple and convenient humidor which can be tightly sealed and which willserve to keep cigarettes, tobacco, cigars and the like, inperiect temper rand to give to the said articles the desired flavor or aroma.
The invention is also intended to produce a humidor which will afford a convenient container for articles such as those mentioned and besides keeping them in temper will facilitate easy access to them and their easy removal from the humidor.
The invention is further intended to produce a structure in which a tray carrying a desired humidi'fying agent is carried in the upper part or the receptacle and is provided with means for adjustment to the end that the desired amount of the humidifying agent may be permittedto permeate the body oit the receptacle.
The invention is also intended` to provide a convenient lifter by which the articles may be raised to a point where they may be readily removed.
Figure 1 is a vertical section of the humidor showing it carrying cigarettes.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but with the tray regulator adjusted dii'lerently and with other articles in the humidifier.
Figure 3 is a sectional plan showing the circulation holes open.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 but with the circulation holes closed.
Figure 5 is a view similar tol Figures 3 and 4L but with the circulation holes partly open.
Figure 6 is a section of the humidifier with the cover removed and with the lifter raised.
Figure 7 is a detail of the tray.
Figure 8 is a. sectional detail of the adjusting plate of the tray and,
Figure 9 is a vertical section of a modified form of the lifter.
The humidier has a box 10 of the desired shape and size, which near the top has a shoulder 11 upon which rests acap 12 and the latter is provided with a knob 13, or its equivalent, to facilitate its removal.
The humidiiier is provided with a tray 14: to carry the humidifying agent, which can be any suitable material capable ofgiving or moisture and fragrance, and the tray rests on the top of the ring 11 which may be integral if preferred with the body 10, and which projects above the shoulder 11 so The regulating plateis centrally pivoted on thev tray bottom and it has aknob 17 on the under side of the pivot by which the plate`16 may be turnedso as to bring the holes 17 and 15 into and out of registry or partly in registry.
l'lfoprovide for easy and quick adjustment the plate 16 isk prererablyfprovided with abutments 18 on the upper" side which are adapted to abut with complementary abutments 19 on the sides of the tray, so when one pair or abutments 18 and 19 are in contact, as in Figure 3, theholes 15 and 17 will register and when the other pair are in abutment the holes will be out of registry and circulation closed, or the plate 16 may be adjusted as in Figure 5 to partly open the holes. j
On the bottom of the humidor is a lifter which comprises a plate 20, lying on the bottom, and handle member 20 which eX- tends to the upper part of the humidifier and is attached to the middle portion of the plate 20. lr" desired, the lifter can carry compartments 21, 22, 23 (see Figure 2) for carrying tobacco, cigars or cigarettes, and obviously the li'ter can have its ycarrying parts toV suit the convenience without aitectfing` the invention. It will be noted, however,
that in the preferred arrangement shown the bottom of the ringll forms a shoulder 2a against which the plate20 strikes when lifted and which prevents the entire `removal oi2 the litter from the humidor.
The litter may, if preferred, have the vair beneath the lifter so kas to readily reach the material at the bottom part thereof.
Thus it `will be seen that we have produced a veryr simple andconvenient structure which can be easily made air-tight and by which a humidifying agent of any kindk can be carried and the right amount of circulation llU provided for. 1t will also be seen thatthe device is very convenient and that the liftery provides for the proper spacing of the artiand for the easy removal 'of them without injury. Y
We claim: 1. A humidifier comprising an open top casing, a perforated tray supported in the upper part of the casing, a plate rotatably moveable on the tray bottom and having holes arranged to be brought into or out of registry with the perfor-ations of the tray, complementary abutments on said plate and casing cover to limit the movement of the plate and a cover fitting over the tray and against the upper part of the easing in a manner to break joints with the tray.
2. A humidifier comprising a easing, a humidifying tray in the upper part of the casing, a cover for the casing, aivertcally moveable lifter lying on the rcasing bottom', said lifter having a perforated bottom and legs on the under side thereof and an abutment within the casing to limit the upward movement of the lifter.
3. A humidifier"comprising a casing open at the top, a ring within the casing near the top. lprojecting above the top edge of the easing, a. cover fitting over the ,ring and abutting with the top edge of the casing7 and a perforated tray seated on the ring with its sidewalls substantially filling the space between they ring and-the top of the cover.
4. A humidifier comprising a casing open at the top, a ring {ittingthe upper part of the casing and projecting above the top edge thereof wherebyk the upper part of the ring serves as a tray supporty and the lower edge as an abutment, a perforated tray seated on the ring,l a cover fitting over the tray and the upper part of the ring to abut with `the top edge of the casing, and a liftermovable inthe lower port of the casing and limited 1n its upward movement bythe aforesaid ring. f
