The primary object of my device consists of combining within one device that is ornamental in design, compact in construction and Auseful in its purpose, into which smokers material, matches and a receptacle for receiving ashes and the like, may be combined into one device. e

The invention consistsprimarily in a body element having top and bottom closures and l'having a multiple of receptacles that are hingedly disposed relative to the body element that may be outwardly extended for admission into the same and which may be closed after use. The device is confined to a minimum amount of space, means being provided for locking the compartments when closed and fo-r releasing the same by'depressing buttons upwardly extending from the top closure.

A further object of my new and improved device consists in confining in one device, a holder for the smoking materials of the smoker and which may be closed when not in use, thus confining the smoking materials within a closure that is compact in appearance and that will occupy a minimum amount of space.

A further object of my device consists in providing compartments rwithin the body portion adapted to maintaln therein the dlfferent smoking elements as matches, tobacco and a receptacle for the smoking residue, as ashes and butts and the like, which may be positioned within a closed container, thus eliminating discomfort from the ashes, the match ends, and the cigarette stubs from littering up the premises commonly used by the smoker. p

With these and incidental objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, the essential elements of which are set forth in the appended claims, and a preferred form of embodiment of which is hereinafter shown with reference to the drawings which 45 accompany and form a part of this specification.

I preferably form my device of a top element 1, and a body element 2, and dispose centrally thereof, a cylindrical holder 3, the same being `adapted to engage the top and body elements 1 and 2 and to maintain the same in position and alignment. A plurality of partitions 4, are disposed between the top and body elements 1 and 2, and extend inwardly and engage with the cylindrical element 3. The partitions 4 divide Vthe device into a multiplicity of compartments, as here shown being threein number, but I do not 90 wish to limit my device to the number of compartments herein shown, as it may be found desirable to increase or decrease the number of compartments. The partitions are suiicient in length to engage top and body elements of the device with which the same are maintained relatively fixed by any suitable fastening means, as by glue, anda receptacle' is hingedly disposed relative to each of the partition elements; Each receptacle as 5, has

a compartment 6 disposed therein adapted to maintain smokers residue therein, as match ends, stubs, ashes and the like. The same may have a metal lining 7, disposed therearound to eliminate the fire hazard. The compartment 8 has a receptacle 9 disposed therein adapted to the maintaining of a box `of matches, or matches in a loose condition and a scratch 10 may be disposed on top of the compartment adjacent the match box to facilitate the scratching of matches thereupon. The third compartment 11 has a receptacle 12 disposed therein adapted to the maintaining of cigars or cigarettes therein or of smoking tobacco. Each compartment is hingedly secured, as at 13, to the partition to facilitate the swinging of the compartment about the hinged support and means is provided in each partition, as at 14, for exerting an outward pressure against a compartment to normally maintain the same in an open condition.

. I preferably place a block 15, within the cylinder 3, and place a plate 16 thereupon, on the underside of which a supporting base 17 is secured. The base 17 has journal pins 18 disposed therein about which locking latches 19 are disposed. A loose fit should be made between the opening of the locking latch passing about the pin 18 and the journal pin to permit of a freedom of movement within a vertical plane of the locking latch. Disposed within a barrel 20 of the block 15, is a compressible spring 21. The upper end of the compressible spring 21 engaging the under side of the locking latch which normally maintains the same in raised position and into intimate contact with the under side of the plate 16. The locking latch is placed in registerable alignment with the locking plate 22 disposed upon the inner side of the compartment so that as the compartment is closed, the plate 22 will engage the sloping surface 23 of the locking latch and depress the same against the spring 21 and permit the locking latch to engage the locking plate 22 and maintain the compartment in a relatively closed position. A second block 24 is disposed within al cylindrical element 3, having a series of openings 25 disposed therein, here shown as three in number, each of which has an actuating stem 26 disposed therein terminating in a buttonlike top 27. The lower side of the stem engages and rests upon the locking latch and when it is desired to open the desired compartment of the device the button is depressed thus disengaging the locking latch from the locking plate and the spring 14 then opens the compartment. Each button has designated on the top thereof, letters indicating the material disposed within 4the receptacle in each compartment, as M for matches, A for ashes, and T for tobacco.

While the form of mechanism herein shown and described is admirably adapted to fulfill the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the invention to the one form of embodiment hereinshown and described, as it is susceptible of embodiment in various forms, all coming within the scope of the claims which follow.

What I claim is 1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a base forming element, a top element and a cylindrical holder centrally disposed therebetween maintaining the same in position and alignment, partitions in spaced relationship disposed between the base and top and outwardly extending from the cylindrical holder sufiicient in length to engage the top and base elements, recep-` tacles hingedly secured relative -to the partitions, a locking latch partially disposed within the cylindrical holder and extending therefrom in registerable alignment with a locking plate placed upon the inner side of a receptacle for locking the receptacle when the same is pressed inwardly about the hinged support.

2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a base and a top with a cylindrical holder and partitions disposed therebetween for maintaining the base and top relatively fixed, the partitions being disposed in spaced relation about the base and top to form spaces between each of the partitions, a receptacle hingedly secured to each of the partitions of a size to fill the space disposed within each partition, a locking latch partially disposed within the cylindrical holder and extending therefrom in registerable alignment with a locking plate placed upon the lnner side of a receptacle for locking the receptacle when closed, an actuating stem, restmg upon the locking latch and upwardly extending through the top terminating in a button-like indicator top, adapted for unlocking the receptacle when closed.

3. Iua device of the class described, the combination of a base and top 'with partitions and a central column disposed therebetween, compartments formed between the partitions and the top and base, a receptacle hingedly secured to each partition and adapted for filling a compartment when closed, a locking latch for maintaining the recep-tacle in a closed condition when closed, an actuating stem upwardly extending through the top and resting upon the locking latch for unlocking the receptacle, spring means attached to each partition and hinged receptacle for maintaining the receptacle in an outwardlv extending condition. u
