` R. G. LECKINGTON SMOKER S STAND Filed Sept. 18I 1922 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Roland G. Leccngon Patented Mar. 24, 1925.
UNITED STATES ROLAND LECXINGTON, 0F LENA, ILLINOIS.
SMOKERS STAND.
Application led September To all lwhom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, ROLAND G. LEoKINc- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lena, in the county of Stephenson and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Smokers Stands, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stands for smokers and has for its object the provision of a novel stand which includes a pedestal upon which are rotatably mounted a plurality of containers for pipe tobacco, cigarettes and cigars, the device having also a removable container adapted to serve as an ash tray and being provided at its center with a clip device for holding a box of safety matches or matches of the ordinary type.
An important object is the provision of a device of this character in which the rotatability of the series of containers will constitute an advantage as enabling the smoker to gain access to any desired materials or articles merely by turning the series of eon tainers.
Another object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in construction, attractive in appearance, efficient and durable in service and a General improvement in the art.
ith the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device,
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section,
Figure 3 is a top plan view,
Figure 4 is a cross section through one of the containers,
Figure 5 is a detail perspective view of the ash tray removed,
Figure 6 is a detail the match holder.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the numeral 10 designates a pedestal of any convenient size, shape and materials, and provided at lits bottom with supporting legs 11 designed to rest upon the floor. The upper end of the pedestal is formed with a slightly enlarged bearing head 12.
Carried by this pedestal is the rotatable portion of the device which i comprises a cruciform receptacle 13 constructed'preferably of metal of any desired gage or character and of any desired dimensions. At its perspective view of 18, 1922. Serial No. 588,988.
center this receptacle carries a block 14 through which passes a pivot screw 15 which extends down into the enlarged upper end of the pedestal and which serves as a trun- 111on upon which the receptacle may be rotated, The cruciform shape of this receptacle provides a plurality of similar compartments 15 one of which may be used for containing pipe tobacco, another for cigars, still another for cigarettes and the remaining one of which is designed to contain a removable tray 16 to receive ashes, stumps and burnt matches. This removable tray is provided with a bail 17 which will facilitate its being lifted out when necessary to dump the contents.
Carried by the receptacle 13 is a top plate 18 which covers the center and upon which are hinged, as shown at 19, lids 20 for the various compartments l5', these lids being provided with knobs 21 facilitating their opening.
Carried by the plate 18 isa match holder consisting of a support 22 having a reduced portion 23 upon which is formed or secured an upstanding rectangular post 24 of a size and shape to t within the shuck or shell of a safety match box with the drawer thereof pushed up to give access to the vstems of the matches. If preferred I may employ a cover 25 placed upon the reduced extension 23 and enclose the matches to protect them from moisture.
The use of the device is of course obvious from an inspection of the drawings taken in conjunction with the above description and it is believed that further elaboration is un' necessary.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention it is of course to be understood that- I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
1. A device of the character described comprising an upright pedestal, a receptacle mounted upon the upper end of the pedestal and including a central element having a plurality of compartments radiating therefrom, a plate covering said central element and lids hinged upon the edges of said plate for covering the respective compartments.
2. A device of the character described comprising an upright pedestal provided 3. .device of the character described with supporting legs, a cruclform receptacle comprlslno' an uprlght pedestal, a receptapivotally mounted upon the upper end of cle pivotally mounted upon the upper end of the pedestal and provided with a plurality the pedestal and formed with a plurality ol of separate compartments, a plate covering separate compartments, a plate covering the 15 the central portion of said receptacle, lids central portion of the receptacle, lids hinged hinged upon the edges of said plate for covupon the edges of said plate forcovermg ering the respective compartments, and a rethe respective compartments. movable tray fitting Within one compartment In testimony whereof I afix my signature 10 and provided with a handle.
