Description

Nov. 17, 1931. w. M. SAMPLE COMBINATION NUT BOWL, ASH TRAY, AND MATCH HOLDER Filed April 18 1929 x INVENTOR. 2/42")??? tflfid'ampZe. @ywfv g? ATTORNEYS Patented Nov. 17, 1931 UNITED STATES WARREN M. SAMPLE, OF MUNCTE, INDIANA GOMBINATION NUT BOWL, ASH TRAY AND MATCH HOLDER Application filed April 18,
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a combination nut receptacle, ash tray and match holder and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character extremely simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture and which is highly sanitary in its use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a combination nut receptacle, ash tray and match holder comprising a pair of nested receptacles, the upper receptacle of the nested pair adapted to have nuts filled therein and further provided with a central opening surrounded by a cylindrical wall providing access to the bottom receptacle of the pair into which is deposited nut shells and other refuse such as cigar and cigarette ashes, the upper receptacle having upon the bottom wall thereof a holder capable of supporting the ordinary type of box of safety matches or a paper package of matches.
With the above and other objects in View that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arran ement of parts hereinafter more fully descri ed, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In the drawings i Figure 1 is a top plan view of a combination nut receptacle, ash tray and match holder constructed in accordance with the present invention; and
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional 7 view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings, there is illustrated a combination nut receptacle, ash tray and match holder that may be constructed of any suitable mate rial, such as porcelain, bakelite, glass, etc., which comprises a pair of nested receptacles 1 and 2, the receptacle 1 having a bottom bead 3 forming a mounting foot therefor, while the upper edge 4 is rolled outwardly and downwardly to provide an ordinary finished edge flange.
The inner or upper nested receptacle 2 lies substantially in contact with the receptacle 1 as illustrated in Figure 2 and has an upper edge 5 rolled outwardly and downwardly 1929. Serial No. 356,254. y w
providing a flange to overlie the flange 4 of the receptacle 1. A plurality of spring clips 6 are secured as'at 7 to theflange' 5 of the receptacle 2 and are adapted to engage the flange 4 of the receptacle 1 for securing the two receptacles 1 and 2 in nested or assembled relation. The receptacle 2 is provided with a central opening 8 in the bottom wall thereof that is surrounded by an upwardly tapering annular wall 9 terminating inline with the flange 5 of the receptacleo2, the upper edge of the annular wall 9 being provided with a flange 1O rolled inwardly and downwardly presenting a finished upper edge to the annular wall. The bottom wallof the'receptacle 2 at one side of the annular wall 9 is provided with a pair of upwardly directed spaced lugs 11 defining an intervening space 12 with which a match box is associated. The usual type of wooden match box is telescopically received on the spaced lugs 11, while in the case of a paper package of matches, the same is positioned in the space 12 between the lugs.
In the use of the combination device, nuts may be placed in the receptacle 2 between the side wall thereof and annular wall 9 surrounding the opening 8 and shells or other refuse are deposited into the outer receptacle 1 through the opening at the upper end of the annular wall 9. The compartment formed by the annular wall 9 in addition to receiving shells and the like may also receive ashes, cigarettes and other refuse when the device is used as a smokers appliance. The spring clips 6 prevent accidental separation of the nested receptacles 1 and 2 and said spring clips may be disengaged from the flange 4: of the receptacle 1 when it is desired to separate the receptacles for purpose of cleaning the outer receptacle 1.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, and while there is herein shown and r described the preferred embodiment of the presentinvention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes maybe made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim 1. A combination bowl and ash tray comprising a pair of nested receptacles, the upper receptacle having a central opening therein permitting access to the lower receptacle, a match holder carried by the upper receptacle, and spring clips associated with the marginal edges of the receptacles to retain them in nested relation.
2. A combination bowl and ash tray comprising a pair of nested receptacles, the upper receptacle having a central opening therein permitting access to the lower receptacle, a match holder carried by the upper receptacle, an upwardly tapering annular wall surrounding the opening in the upper receptacle and terminating at the upper end of the receptacle, and spring clips associated with the marginal edges of the receptacle to retain them in nested relation.
3. A device of the class described c01nprising two vertically mating receptacles, the lower receptacle having an iinperforate bottom and the upper receptacle having but a single central opening in its bottom and an upwardly extending annular wall surrounding the opening and terminating at its upper end in substantially the same plane as the upper edge of the upper receptacle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
