DEODORIZER Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 17, 1909.
Application filed March 10, 1909. Serial No. 482,493.
citizen of the United States," residing at Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvements in Deodorizers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in disseminating deodorizing substances, perfume, etc. Its object is to provide a deodorizer having means which serve the double purpose of setting free the gases, odors or perfumes and of distributing them.
In the drawings herewith accompanying and making part of this application, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of my improved deodorizer; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the distributing fan.
Same letters of reference indicate like parts. i
In said drawings A is a suitable housing divided into two compartments B and C by a horizontal partition D. Connecting saidcoinpartments is an upturned flue E thus forming a receptacle F to contain the de odorizing material, perfume, etc. Mounted in compartment B in any convenient manner as upon a vertical post G is a rotary fan H and for convenience said fan is provided with a bracket I on the under side through which the post G projects, the end of the post being slightly tapered and the fan provided with a small centering hole J, whereby the fan is free to revolve on saidpost. The top of the housing and the removable cover K one or both are provided with openings L for the escape of the gases, odors or perfumes. In the lower compartment is placed any convenient source of heat and I have illustrated a gas fixture as a type. This may be mounted in any convenient manner and I haveshown it as permanently secured to a removable bottom N. The lower compartment is also provided with air intake openings 0. I
The operation of my improved deodorizer is as follows: The material is placed loosely in the compartment F, the heat is'turned on and passing against the bottom of the partition and through the flue E sets free the odors and gases. It also strikes against the fan setting it in motion thus expelling the odors and gases set free through the discharge openings L in the top of the casing and in the cover.
The advantages are that the apparatus is simple in construction and the odors and gases are set free and disseminated by one and the same means.
Having thus described my invention and its use I claim z- A deodorizer comprising a suitable housing divided into two compartments by a partition, a flue connecting the two compartments and extending upwardly from said partition, the lower compartment being pro vided with intake openings and a source of heat positioned'below said flue, the upper compartment adapted to contain the deodorizer and provided with openings and a rotary fan mounted'in said upper chamber above said flue and operable by the rising current of heated air taken in through the intake openings in the lower chamber and expelled by said fan through the escape openings in the upper chamber.
I11 testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this application in presence of two subscribing witnesses this eighth of March,
CHARLES E. BLOOD.
In presence of- ELGIN C. VERRILL, MARION RICHARDS.
