Application October 19, 1929, Serial No. 4il0,980 Renewed March 23, 1935 2 Claims. (c1.2 1 1a) My invention relates: to vaporizing apparatus and the same has. for its'object to pro- 5 tories and the like for purifying air, water, etc.
Another object of my invention is the provision of apparatus of the character specified which includes means for alleviating or reducing noxious odors.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a perspective of one form of apparatus constructed according to and embodying my said invention; and
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof with the casing 1 in section.
Referring to the drawings, cludes a recessed or hollow base I ledges it at opposite sides on which rests a removable top portion or'closure i0.
An electric motor 58 is provided and is secured within casing it). The motor 58 has a shaft 82 with a fan 84 at one end thereof and a worm 68 at the other end thereof.
A receptacle 88 having a pivoted cover or 25 closure is carried by a suitable bracket 12 secured tothe casing it below the worm 08. The bracket 12 also carries a standard 14 in which a gear 16, meshing withworm BB. is journaled. The gear, IO-has a pin 18 thereon adapted-to inao termittently engage the trip 80 on cover 10 to open the same. 1
The receptacle is for the purpose of receiving suitable aromatic substance for alleviating or reducing noxious odors and excessive noxious B5 odors, and the quantity of such substances permitted to escape from receptacle 08 may be varied, as desired. The aromatic substances may comprise, for example, oils or solids having an odor of new mown hay, pine needles, Wintergreen, i0 honey suckle, and the like.
The number of actuations of the cover HI per minute to release or permit of the escape of the aromatic substance may be dependent on the rate of rotation of the fan M or otherwise con- .5 trolled. Regulation of the rate of opening of the over may also be accomplished by changing the ratio of the gears 88, it or by changing the position of the pin 18.
.The adjustments are readily made at will so 0 that the resulting mixture produces the desired pleasing eii'ect on the olfactory organ of the per,- son making the adjustment.
the casing ill inportion l2 having By the foregoing arrangement or method the disagreeable or obnoxious odors re alleviated without excessiveness in the quanti 'y of aromatic substance employed.
The admixture of the aromatic substance with 6 the air is effected in the partially confined space within the casing is to insure permeation of one with the other before the mixture is swept by the air current generated by the fan from the casing.
The fan 64 maintains a vertically moving cu'r- 10 rent of air through and confined by the casing ill. The air enters the casing at the base thereof through suitable opening or openings 80 in the base member I! and passes out together with the aromatic vapors through an opening or openings 92 in the upper portion of the casing portion is. The direction of discharge through opening 82 is controlled by shutters 94 which may be actuated by member 88 to direct the air current up or down or horizontally.
The apparatus may be placed in living rooms. ofllces or other places for the purpose of destroy ing foul odors or employed for purifying air, water, etc.
The rate of air flow through the casing and aromatic supply may be regulated to produce an effect which is the most pleasing and beneficial to the person making the adjustment.
The several housings or enclosures for the apparatus may be artistically designed to be suitable for use in living rooms, etc., and the same may be provided with suitable auxiliary devices suchas ash trays, calendars, clocks. measuring rules, cigar lighters, etc.
I claim: 1. In apparatus of the character described, a receptacle for receiving a substance capable of alleviating noxious odors, a closure for said receptacle, a motor driven fan for causing circulation of air, and means operated by the fan motor for intermittently actuating said closure.
2. In apparatus of the character described, an apertured casing, a fan therein, a motor therein for rotating the fan, a normally closed receptacle therein for receiving a substance for alle- 45 vi ating noxious odors, and means operated by the motor for intermittently opening said receptacle.
