Specification of Letters Patent.

Application led December 19, 1913. Serial No. 807,688.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ARTHUR HENRY KIM- MEL, of the town of Berlin, in the county of Waterloo, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in shirts and the object of the invention is to prevent the unsightly slovenly appearance of the braces when the wearer removes his coat and vest for any purpose and yet allow of the trousers being supported in the usual manner by the braces giving the wearer a neat and trim appearance and it consists essentially of a shirt body beneath which the braces are designed to be worn, openings formed in the back and front of the shirt body in proximity to the waist line and through which the tabs of the braces pass to connect to the trousers on the outside of the shirt as hereinafter more particularly explained by the following specification.
Figure 1, is a perspective view of a igure showing my shirt applied thereto. Fig. 2, is a front view of a shirt constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 3, is a similar view to Fig. 2 showing the rear view of the shirt.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is the shirt constructed in any usual way and provided with front slits or openings A and A2 and a rear slit or opening AB. Each of the openings A', A2 and A3 are provided with a covering flap A4 preferably triangular in form, each triangular flap being secured along the base to the shirt in proximity to the upper edge of each of the openings and each flap being provided at its apex with suitable securing means such as buttons and button-holes for connecting the iiap to the body of the shirt below the opening.
B are the braces indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, which are worn beneath the shirt A. The braces B are provided with the usual tabs B for connecting them to the trousers. As shown in Fig. 1 the braces extend beneath the shirt down on each side of the wearer to the openings A and A2, the tabs B thereof extending through the opening and between the shirt and iiap thereof to each side of the flap fastening means. The back tabs of the braces extend through the opening A8 in a similar manner and are secured to the back buttons of the trousers.
llt will thus be seen that should the wearer desire to remove his coat and vest for any purpose that practically the whole of the braces will be invisible being worn beneath the shirt and only the tabs thereof extending through the shirt will appear where they connect with the` trousers. By this means the appearance of the wearer is rendered neat, the shirt having the appearance of an ordinary shirt waist dispensing with the use of a belt to support the trousers.
What l claim as my invention is:
A shirt body having a slit or opening located in each side of the front center and substantially on the waist line and through which the front tabs of the braces are designed to extend to connect to the trousers and having a slit or opening located in the back of the shirt centrally thereof and substantially on the waist line and through which the rear tabs of the braces are designed to extend to connect to the trousers, and a V-shape flap secured along the base of the V in immediate proximity to the upper edge of the slit, the sides of the iap depending freely at each side from its upper edge and having a button hole at the apex of the V, and a button secured to the shirt body beneath each horizontal slit designed to engage with the button hole of the corresponding flap, as and for the purpose spec- 'fi d. 1 e ARTHUR HENRY KMMEL.
