BILL-FILE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. May 25, 1915.
Application filed May 31, 1913. Serial No. 770,859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LYFRANK J. KRISTOFEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bill-Files, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a file for bills or other papers which is simple and inexpensive in construction and is adapted for advertising purposes and for being packed in a minimum of space, without crushing.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective of my invention when the parts are unfolded in readiness for use; Fig. 2 is a plan showing the parts in folded position, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section when the parts are in unfolded position, the broken lines indicating the position the hook assumes when folded upon the back.
In the drawing A indicates a back of oblong or any other suitable shape made of card board or any other suitable material. Upon this back is mounted a hook B made of metal wire or other suitable material having its body 2 in the form of a straight shank, and its pointed hook end 3 turned up from said shank. The shank of the hook is slidably mounted in the fastening C consisting of a flat strip of metal bent into an elongated sleeve 4: having its ends inserted through a slot 5 in the back and clasped fiat leaving the sleeve 4: projecting from the surface of the back. 7 The shank of the hook 3 is adapted to slide up and down in said sleeve but is prevented from turning in a plane parallel with the back. The upper end of the shank 2 is formed with a loop 6 lying in a plane parallel with the back when the hook stands out at an angle of 90 degrees to the back, said loop by contact with the back serving to prevent the hook from turning when pulled down into the positlon illustrated in Fig. 1. l/Vhen the hook is slid up in the collar 4 into the position illustrated in Fig. 2, and the back bent away from the loop, it may be turned down flat agalnst the back with its loop 6 projecting into a slot 7 in the back which tends to prevent the hook from turning out. When in folded condition as illustrated in Fig. 2, a number of the bill files may be packed flat together in a minimum of space for shipping. The slot 7 in the back receiving the loop 6 also reduces the tendency of the loop from injuring the back when subjected to pressure. To pull the hook down into position in readiness for use the back being flexible may be bent away to disengage the loop 6 in the slot 7 and the hook slid in the sleeve 4 into the position illustrated in Fig. 1 when it is turned out in readiness for use with the loop t3 lying flat against and engaged by the back 1n such position as to prevent the hook from turning. The bill file may be hung upon any suitable support such as through the support receiving opening 8 in the back.
In accordance with the patent statutes I have described the principles of operation of my invention together with the apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof but I desire to have it understood that the construction shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set forth within the scope of the following claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is A bill file consisting of a back, a hook having a substantially straight shank and means for supporting said hook having a sleeve secured to said back in which said shank is adapted to slide longitudinally, said shank being formed with a transverse member on its upper end lying in a plane substantially parallel with the plane of the surface of said back when said hook is turned out and serving to prevent said hook turningwhen slid into outermost extended position and said back being formed with an opening positioned to receive and form a locking connection with an edge of said transverse member when said transverse member is slid back and folded upon said back whereby unintentional turning and sliding movement of said hook is prevented when the parts assume folded position.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK J. KRISTOFEK.
