Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 1915.
Application filed .Tune 6, 1914. Serial No. 84=3,323.
TO'CZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL Kors, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing in the borough of; Manhattan, city, county, and Stateof New York, have invented an Improvement in Apparel-Corsets, of which the following is a specification. V
In Letters Patent, No. 1,082,278, granted to me December 23, 1913, for an apparel corset, I have shown and described a corset structure in which each corset body half is provided with a depending skirt member extending from a rear edge thereof-forw ardly, "and a front skirt extension completing thecontinuity of the skirt to approximately the front medial line of the corset body half, and secured at one side edge to the skirt and a portion of the corset body half, and along the top edge to the front portion of the corset body half, the object of this structure being to provide a corset by which the usual advantages of the skirt members are obtained and at the same time one in which the straight front effect is produced, and a proper support provided for the lower portion of the abdomen of the wearer. It is to be noted in thisfcase, however, that the front skirt extension members are'fixed and consequently are in nowise adjustable to position relatively to the front body portion of the corset.
In Letters Patent No. 1,105,830, granted to me July 28, 1914, I have shown and described a corset structure similar to that to which reference has hereinbeforebeen made, with the exception that the front skirt extension members are not attached at their upper edges to the lower front portions of the corset body halves, and that hook and eye members, or other similar means, are employed for adj ustably attaching the upper front portions-of these front skirt sections to the lower front portions of the corset body halves, in order that the relationship between these members may be adjustable. In this structure, however,-it has been found that the entire strain, both longitudinally of the corset, due to the tension of the hose supporters attached to the lower edges of the front skirt extensions, and transversely of the corset, depending upon the tightness with which the garment fits, have been placed upon the hooks and eyes, or other similar devices employed for attaching the upper front portions-of the skirt extensions to the lower front portions of the corset body halves, as aforesaid. The tendency, therefore, is to cause the hooks to break or the eyelets to wear out, or to otherwise impair thesemembers, or similar devices which may be employed for this purpose.
The object of my present invention, therefore, is to overcome this difliculty, and in doing so, I provide a corset structure similar to those hereinbefore described, with the inclusion of a tension strap or other similar device designed to relieve the longitudinal strain placed upon the devices for adjustably attaching the front skirt sections to the corset body halves, so that the principal strain placed upon these attaching devices is merely the lateral or transverse strain.
The use of this garment has also demonstrated the fact that the tension strap or other similar device employed not only perform the function hereinbefore stated but also has a tendency of forcing the lower front portion of the corset against the body of the wearer, thereby insuring the necessary abdominal support and at the same time forces upwardly the upper portion of the corset body halves immediately below the bust line, so as to relieve the pressure which would otherwise be placed upon the body of the wearer along this line.
The construction of this corset will be hereinafter more particularly described.
In the drawing, Figure l is a front elevation of an apparel corset in which my present improvement is embodied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged elevation of the lower front portion of the corset, one of the skirt extensions being broken away in order the more clearly to illustrate the tension strap employed, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal cross section illustrating the parts of the corset comprising my present invention.
Referring to the drawing, in carrying out my invention, and as usual, the corset comprises corset body halves 10 and 11, which, along the front edges, are provided with suitable clasps 12, by which the corset body halves, at'the front, are joined and series of eyelets 13 along the rear edges, through which laces 14 are threaded for connecting the corset body halves at the rear.
The corset body half 10 is provided with a skirt 15, and the corset body half 11 with -theski rt 16. .These members extend thereof forwardly. Theskirt'member -is provided: with a Skirt extension li', and the skirt member 16 withan extension 1 8; The V skirt jjextension 17' is connected along one side edge.to'theforward' edge of the skirt 15, and also'to a portion of the corresponding' corset-bodyhalf 10, as indicatedby the line ofsewing 19. ;The upper edge 21, of this.
skirt extension 17,hovvever, isunattached to the corset body half. 7 Similarly, the skirt extension 18, along one side'edge' thereoflfis connected to {the front edge of the skirt l 1 and also to a'portionofthecorsetbody half,

I claiin as my invention:
