T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL Kors, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Apparel-Corsets, ofwhich the following is a specification.

In the immediate past it has been one of the aims of fashionable women, and all those who attempt to imitate them, to be extremely slender irrespective of the means employed to attain this condition. N ow as it is well known, the exterior contour of the human abdomen in both males and females is convex, but often times in acquiring a fashionable slender form, the female body isso reduced in flesh that the abdomen becomes concave instead of convex. It is also generally recognized that a certain amount of flesh, as well as the abdominal muscles, is necessary to properly support the kidneys, ovaries and other organs in the abdominal cavity of the human female body, and consequently it will be readily understood that when the flesh is reduced beyond a certain point whether from natural or unnatural causes, the walls of the abdomen willnot afford a proper support for these internalorgans and all manner of troubles are likely to ensue.

The object of my invention therefore is to overcome these difliculties by the provision of a corset in which a support pad is employed and so made as to be adjustable to position, the support pad preferably being used in conjunction with an uplifting ten sion device in any one of the forms which have heretofore been patented by me and by which the support pad may be pressed against the body with the desired or required pressure to provide the necessary support and hence effect the intended purposes. It will also be apparent that the support pad as constructed in accordance with my present invention may be useful in cases of treating hernia and other similar troubles.

Referring to the drawing in carrying out my present invention the corset made in accordance herewith is constructed in halves, as usual, the corset body halves being indi cated respectively at 10 and 11. As is also customary these corset body halves along the front edges are provided with steels 12 fitted with clasps 13 by which along these edges the halves of the garment are connected, while at the rear they areconnected in the usual manner by the ordinary laces. As also indicated in the drawing the halves of the garment may be provided with suitable depending skirts indicated at ll.

The present invention-relates more particularly to a support pad and the manner in which the same is placed in the garment. In introducing this feature I employ a pad strap 15 to which is suitably secured a pad member 16. This pad member at one end is preferably circular in configuration and at the other end tapers to a substantial point, the circular end being placed toward the front of the garment and the point end distant from the front edges of the corset body halves. At one end the pad strap 15 is secured to'the body of the garment distant from the front edgesthereof along a line of sewing or other attachment indicated at 17. Adjacent the front edge of the garment the pad strap is connected thereto by a tape 18 or any other similarmeans. At its lower end the pad strap extends downwardly, the lower end thereof being indicated at 19 and to which there is secured an adjusting strap 20. This adjusting strap is passed through an opening 21 placed in the lower front edge of the corset skirt for this purpose and exteriorly of the garment is suitably adjusted and secured in place to determine the position of the pad strap and the pad. As indicated in the drawing, the skirt members at the front corners thereof are provided with hose supporters 22 fitted with the usual clasps 23 and the adjusting strap 20 may be secured in place by being gripped by the clasp 23. This, however, is only one means for securing the adjusting strap in position, as obviously other means may be employed to equal advantage. In conjunction with the hereinbefore described pad strap and pad, I also prefer to employ an uplifting tension device such for example as has been patented by me heretofore. As shown in the drawing in the present case and by particular reference to Fig. 2, it will be seen that this uplifting tension device preferably comprises a. yielding strap 24 secured at one edge to the body of the garment distant from the front edge thereof and as illustrated the line of attachment is the same as that along which theinner edge of the pad strap is secured, namely, along a continuation of the line of sewing indicated at 17. The opposite or forward edge of this yielding strap 24 is provided with a series of eyelets 25 through which a lace 26 passes. Ehe lace 26 also passing through a similar series of eyelets 27 in an anchor member 28 which is secured in position adjacent the front steel in each body half of the garment. The lace 26 is also passed through eyelets 29 so that the uplifting tension device may be adjusted exteriorly of the garment by drawing up the laces and tying the same on the front of the corset.

By reference to Fig. 1, it will be seen that instead of the strap pad 15 being directly connected to the body of the garment along the line 17 it may, for some purposes, particularly where a relatively extensive adjustment of the pad is necessary, be advisable to connect this distant end of the pad strap to one end of a yielding strap 30, the opposite end of which is connected to the body of the garment along the line 17 distant from the front edge thereof.

From the foregoing description it will now be apparent that the pad and pad strap may be adjusted to the proper place and after this is done the uplifting tension device may be adjusted to position so as to cause the pad to exert the desired or required pressure upon the parts of the body to be supported.

I claim as my invention:

1. In an apparel corset and in each corset body half thereof, a strap permanently secured at one end distant from the lower front portion of the front steel and extending forwardly, a pad secured to said strap, and means associated with the forward end of the strapv for adjustably securing the same and the pad in position in the garment.

2. In an apparel corset and in each corset body half thereof, a strap permanently secured at one end distant from the lower front portion of the front steel and also attached to the lower front portion of the garment adjacent the front steel, a pad secured to said strap, and means associated with the forward end of the strap for so adjusting the same and the pad to position in the garment as to cause, the latter to simultaneously exert an inward and an upward pressure against the body of the wearer.

3. In an apparel corset and in each corset body half thereof, a pad strap secured at one edge distant from the lower portion of the front steel and also attached to the lower front portion of the garment adjacent the front steel, a support pad secured in the said pad strap, and means depending from the pad strap for adjustably securing the same and said pad in position in the garment.

In an apparel corset and in each corset body half thereof, a pad strap secured at one edge distant from the lower portion of the front steel and also attached to the lower front portion of the garment adjacent the front steel, a pad secured to said pad strap, means depending from the pad strap for adjustably securing the same in position in the garment, and an uplifting tension device between the said pad strap and pad in the lower front portion of the garment for causing the said pad to exert a predetermined pressure against the body of the wearer.

5. In an apparel corset and in each corset body half thereof, a pad strap secured at one edge distant from the lower portion of the front steel and also attached to the lower front portion of the garment adjacent the front steel, a pad secured to said pad strap, an adjusting strap secured to and depending from the said pad strap, and adapted to be secured in place to determine the position of the pad strap and pad in the garment, an uplifting tension device between the said pad strap and pad and the lower front portion of the garment, and means adjustable exteriorly of the garment for determining the position of the uplifting tension device.

6. In an apparel corset comprising corset body halves, a pad strap secured at one end in the lower portion of each corset body half distant from its front edge and alsosecured to each corset body half adjacent the front edge thereof, a pad fixed in each pad strap and a tension device in the lower front portion of each corset body half between the same and the said pad and pad strap.
