Description

J. M. STIVERS & A. C. ENOCHS.
SHARPENER FOR RAZOR BLADES.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 18. I915.
Patented. Apr. 13, 1915.
IN I/EN TORS zznalrequ 0. EWO CfiJ.
ATRNEY till , all m JAKE M. STIVERS AND ANDREW C. ENOCHS, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMA.
SHARPENEJR, FOR RAZOR-BLADES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr, 13, 19915..
One embodiment of the invention in prac-' tical form is shown by the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the main portion of the improved device. similar view of a clamp in which the blade is held for sharpening. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device in use. Fig. 4: is an elevation view of the parts shown in Fig. 3.
Referring to the several figures, in all of which like characters of reference designate like parts, the device includes a sheet-metal base 5, arranged to support two small hones 6. I
To hold the hones Gagainst displacement, small lugs '7 are struck up from the base 5 at the inner edges of'said hones and similar lugs 8 at their ends, the longer or side edges of the base being flanged upward as at .9 to support the hones in an inwardly tilted position.
The hones 6 are held down securely in place by clamping bars 10, which are in turn held down on said hones by small bolts 11 that pass up through the base5 and said bars and are provided with nuts 12.
lln further arrangement, a clamp'for holding the blade 13 is composed of two metal bars or blocks 14 between which the-bladeis clamped, these bars being held to said blade by .small bolts 15 which pass removably through them and said blade and are provided with nuts 16.
lln use, the blade 13, held between the bars 14, is placed with one of its cutting edges Fig. 2 is a 17 on one of the hones 6 and its other cutting edge on the other hone, the lower clamping bar 14 filling the spacebetween the hones 6 with just a sliding clearance and being guided by said hones during the longitudinal sliding movement of the blade thereon.
The sliding movement of the blade 13 on the hones 6 is properly limited by lugs 18 which are struck up from the ends of the base 5 into the path of movement of the lower bar 14, and by giving the blade a few sliding movements on the hones in the direction shown, it may be quickly sharpened to a shaving edge or to a condition to be finished by stropping.
Having thus described the invention, we claim 1. In a device of the class described, a base, hones supported on the base side by side and tilted toward each other thereon, and means for guiding a blade in its sliding movement on said hones. I
2. In adevice of the class described, a base, hones mounted on the base and spaced apart thereon, bars resting on the hones to hold them in place, bolts passing up through the base and through said bars to hold said bars to the hones, and means for guiding a blade in a sliding movement on said hones.
3. In a device of the class described, a base, hones mounted on the base and spaced apart thereon, bars resting on the hones to clamp them in place, bolts passing up through the base and through said b'ars'to hold the bars to the hones, a clamping device comprising two bars adapted to engageopposite faces of a blade, said device being adapted to project down between the edges of the hones and be guided thereby during sliding movements of the blade on said hones.
Witnessour hands this 16th day of Janu-' J. 1?. Moss, Gino. C. Hanna.
