T all whom it may concern Be it known that-I, WILLIAM: N. SHARP, a citizen of the United States, residing at-Ch1- cago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toilet Articles, of whlch the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an 1mproved construction of a combined comb and brush, which shall render the article compact for convenience in carrying it, and thereby adapt it particularly for travelers use, and permit the comb and brush each to be readily unfolded for desired successive use, from and as readily folded into a handle-forming case to which they are hinged.

The case 5, shown of oblong rectangular form, is made of any suitable material,

though preferably of sheet durability and for the sake of lightness,

, cleanliness, of aluminum. It comprises a bottom-face 6,.a closed end 7 shown slightly recessed on its upper edge, an open end containing a hinge-pintle 8, and parallel sides 9 and 10. The case is open along its top face. The side 10 contains a longitudinal slot 11 terminating short of the open caseend and extending to some depth, at 12, laterally into the edge of the adjacent end 7 and a curved recess 13 is provided in the edge of the base near the forward end of the slot. A hair-brush 14, the back of which is also preferably of aluminum, carries on one end a hinge-knuckle 8 for hingedly connecting with the pintle 8 the brush to adapt the latter to be folded, when out of use, into the case, which'it fits, as shown in Figs. 2

and 4, and unfolded to extend into the posiin elevation and tion of its use represented in Fig. 1, wherein the case afiords a handle by which to manipulate it. A comb 15, which it is also desirable to form of aluminum, is pivotally fastened, at one corner, to the corner of the base 6 near the slot at 12, to adapt it to fold hingedly through the slot 11 into the case, which it fits, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, and to be unfolded to the position representedin Fig. 3 for extending it from the case for use, employing the case as a handle.

The comb should be provided with a notch indicated at 15", in the face of its back 15 at a point in the latter that comes coincident withthe recess 13 when the comb "is folded into place to admit the thumb-nail of the user and thus afford convenient access to the comb for unfolding it. The brush is accessible in the same way, for unfoldingv it, at a notch 14: in its outer end throughthe recessed upper edge of the case- 'end 7.

As will be seen, the brush and comb fold and unfold in directions at right-angles to each other, and when they are folded together in the case the comb lies or extends along and out of contact withthe bristles of the brush, being held'out of contact by the engagement of the knuckle 8 with the bottom ace 6. p

By the construction thus shown and described, the several articles are not only inseparably attached together, thus preventing either the brush or the comb from being mislaid or lost by separation for use from the case-forming handle, but the device is neat and sanitary, besides being compact and thus extremely convenient to be carried, particularly by travelers, and especially those traveling in automobiles to points. of alighting for refreshment without staying or intending to stay there over night and where they find it desirable to use these toilet-articles in restoring presentable ap-- pearance at table.
