ARTHUR arLAcKwcop, or CAEEBORO, NORTH CAROLINA., Y
ADJUSTABLE ROLLEiet-HOLDER.
Application filed July 20, 1514.
To all whom it may concern Be it lmown that I, ARTHUR J. BLACK- wooD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carrboro, in the county of Orange and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Roller-Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to, make and use the same.
rIhis invention relates to roll stands for spinning machines, and particularly a stand which may be usedon jack frames, iy frames, intermediates, slubbers, drawer frames, etc.
The present form of stand is provided with a fixed roll support or bearing in the forward portion thereof, and two movable roll supports for bearings, each being individually adjustable and individually removable without interference with the remaining bearing. In other words, one of the movable bearings may remain perfectly intact while the other movable bearings may be removed and vice versa.
One of the features of the invention is the provision of swiveled screw members for adjusting each one of the removable bearings, including means for locking the screw members when being adjusted. Said screwV members are relieved of the necessity of removing the same, when detaching one of the removable bearings.
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations, Y falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, and claimed.
I n the drawings Figure l is a view in perspective of the improved roll stand constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View, Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view, on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail view of one of the roll supports or bearings and its attending `part for holding the bearing mounted on the stand. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary top view.
Referring to the drawings 1 designatesy the standard, upon the upper end of which a head 2 is formed, which is provided with a bearing 3 for the reception of a spindleV (not shown)v of a iixedroll (not shown). This bearing has a copper seat 4 dove-tailed Specificationv of Letters Patent.

or otherwise fixed in said head. Projecting rearwardly of the head 2 is afbar 5 having a slot 6 forming aguide for the tongue'7-and 8 of the angular members v9 and 10. The
tongue 7 of the member 9 is so arranged,-
that is, offset forwardly of the face 11.0f the member 9, so that the bearing member 12 may be adjusted flat against the bearing member 13. In other word-s, so that Ythe faces 14'and 15 of said bearing members .will contact. Y The bar 5 is provided with guides 16 adjacent the slot, and in which guides the tongues 17 and 18 of the bearing members 12 and 13 engage, so as to guide the bearing members 12 and 13 in their movements. The
21 are two screws 26 and 27. One end of. kthe screw 26 is swivelly connected as shown at 28 and 29 to the angular member 10, the screw 27 has one end swivelly connected at 30 and 31 to the angular member 9. By adjusting either one of the screwsV 26 or 27 the angular members 9 and 10 may be moved longitudinally of the bar 5 and with them the bearing members 12 and 13 are movable. After adjusting the screws 26 and 27, they may be locked in adjusted positions by the lock nuts 32. Passing upwardly through the angular members 9 and 10, and through their tongues are screw bolts 33 and 34,
.which also pass into and threaded to the 'bearing thereby firmly holding the bearing members 12 and 13 upon'the bar 5 so as to slide forwardly and rearwardly,` whereby the rolls may be adjusted in positions desired. The swiveled connections between -said screws and the angular membersare detachable.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is :-V j
1. A roll stand for spinning machines having a standard, a rearwardly extending extension bar upon its upper portion provided with a. longitudinal slot and terminating at its rear end in a downwardly extending portion, a pair of roller bearing members mounted upon the bar to slide thereon, a pair of 'angular members carried by' the bearing members, and means mounted in said downwardly extending portion provided with swiveled connections with saidv Gopies of this patent. may be obtainedfor ing members` and angular members may be disconnected, said extension bar at its rear end terminating in a detachably connected? downwardly extending portion, means to prevent said portion from twisting, or displacement screws threaded throughv the downwardly extending portion one above the other, each screw having a detachable swiveled connection with each angular member, means for holdingl each screwy in `adjust` ed positions, said screws acting to individu.- allyy adjust each angular member and' its atf tending bearing member.
In testimony whereof Il have signed. my; name t0 this specilication in the presence-of two subscribing witnesses.
