GUIDES FOB. SAWING-MACHINES.
No.183,889. Patented Oct. 3L 1876.
ATTBBNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CORNELIUS R. BLAUVELT, OF NEWARK, AND PETER V. V. SAGE, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN GUIDES FOR SAWING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,889, dated October 31, 1876; application filed September 16, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CORNELIUS R. BLAU- VELT, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, and PETER V. V. SAGE, of East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Guides for Sawing- Machines, of which the following is a specification:
Figurel is a top view of our improved device. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line 00.70, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line y y, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for holding work While being mitered or beveled, which shall be so constructed that it may be quickly and firmly secured to the table, and readily detached when not required for use, which may be readily adjusted for any thickness of Wood, and to any style of table, which will allow the table to remain horizontal, so that there will be no extra strain upon the saw, which may be readily adjusted to bevel the wood at any desired angle, and which will greatly lessen the labor of sawing.
The invention consists in the combination of the bar, the adjustable arm and bar, the rigid arm, and the hinged bar andits clamping-screw with thebed-plate,forsecuringthe device to the saw-table; and in the combination of the hinged and slotted plate or frame, the curved and slotted hinged arm and its clamping-screw, the sliding plate and its T-bars, and clamp with the bed-plate and its rigid arm, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the bed plate of the device, to one end of which is pivoted a curved bar, B, the inner edge of which is rabbeted to fit upon the edge of the saw-table. The other end of the bed-plate A is slotted to receive the arm Q, to the outer end of which is pivoted a rabbeted bar, D, similar to the bar B.
The arm 0 is secured in place adjustably by a clamping-screw, c. For attachment to a square table the bars B D should be made straight.
To the rear edge of the bed-plate A is attached, or upon it is formed, anarm, E, to the outer end of which is hinged a bar, F, which projects forward to pass beneath the top of the saw-table, and which is drawn against the said table-top to secure the device in place by a set-screw, f, which passes through a hole in the arm E, and screws into the said bar F.
To the forward edge of the bed-plate A is hinged the lower edge of a plate or frame,'G, to the middle part of the upper edge of which is hinged the end of a curved bar, H. The bar H is slotted longitudinally to receive the screw h, by which it is secured to the arm E, so that the plate or frame G may be readily adjusted at any desired angle to give any desired bevel to the wood.
In the plate or frame G are formed two longitudinal slots to receive the T- shaped bars I, attached to the under side of the plate J, upon which the wood is placed to be beveled.
To one end of the plate J is hinged a jaw, K, which is held down to clamp the wood to the said plate J by a set-screw, k, which passes through the said jaw and screws into the said plate J. The forward end of the jaw K is made wide to give it a firm hold upon the wood.
With this construction the wood is fed forward to the saw by sliding the plate J upon the plate or frame G.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the bar B, the adjustable arm 0 and bar D, the arm E, and the hinged bar F and its clamping-screw f with the bed-plate A, for securing the device to the saw-table, substantiallyas herein shown and described.
2. The combination of the hinged and slotted plate or frame G, the curved and slotted hinged arm Hand its clamping-screw h, the sliding plate J and its T- shaped bars I, and clamp K and set-screw k with the bed-plate A and its arm E, substantially as herein shown and described.
