To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN HENRY WHITE- new, Vfnlmsn EDWARD harness, and Gnonon G'ALLOWAY, subjects of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Leeds, in the county of York, England, have invented certain, new and useful improvements in or Relating to Bearings for the Drawing-Oil Rollers oi Nobles Comhing- Machines, ofwhich the following is a speciiication.
Our invention refers to supports or been ings for the spindles of the drawing-oil rollers of Nobles combing machines. With the usual constructions of such supports or bearings, there is a liability after a littlewear and owing to the pull of the sliver and the thrust of the spring which pushes the loose roller toward the 'driving roller, of the shorter spindle which carries the loose roller taking a position out of line with, i. e. not parallel to the longer spindle, with which the driving roller is usually integral. Also the slide blocks, in which the holes forming the bearings for the short spindle are made, often tilt upward at one end under the pressure of the said springs behind them, throwing them out of true.-
Now the object of this invention is to avoid these disadvantages, and also to lessen the cost and labor of making such bearings. W'e attain these objects by the construction illustrated by the accompanying drawings, to which reference is had in the following description.
Figure 1 is a vertical section of our improved support or bearing through the axes or both rollers. Fig. 2 is a plan View on line A A. of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the slide blocks, and Figs. 4; to 7 are cross sections on lines B B, G (l, D D and E E respectively of Fig. 1.

0 is the loose roller and d is the spindle of the same.
According to this invention, the slide or guide 6 for the slide block 9, carrying or forming the bearing for the spindle d of the loose roller, is formed as a hollow cylinder open at one end, and closed at the other end f; and the slide blocl: g is formed as a more or lesssolid cylinder fitting the interior of the guide c, which is also made cylindrical. The slide block has a hole 72, see 3 diametrically through it near its Front end, which forms the socket or bearing for the end (Z of the spindle of the loose roller. The front or open end oi the hollow cylindrical gulde is provided with a hole 2' Fig. 2, diametrically through its sides, so as to receive thev vertical bush Z0 forming the bearing for the spindle b of the driving roller a.
The underside of the guide e for the lower end of the driving roller spindle Z) is provided with a plug and socket pro- 1 jection Z Fig. 1, the socket hole of which is a continuation of said hole 2', the turned outside of the projection Z fitting in a socket hole -lforined in the bracket or support on carrying the gearing plate at. 0 is a flange,
by ineans of which the guide 6 is bolted in position and to the bracket m. The portion of the hole 2' in the upper side of the guide 6 is extended rearwardly for a short dis tance as a slot hole 3;, for the purpose of giving passage for the said spindle to the socket or hearing hole It in the slide block 9'. A groove (,1 is formed along one side of the slide block 9 into which the turned down end of a screw 1, passed through the side of the cylindrical guide 0, projects; for the purpose of preventing any partial rotation of the slide block 9 when the spindle d is withdrawn, so that there is no diliiculty in reinserting the end of the spindle in the bearing hole h in the slide block. A circular recess 5; extends inward from the rear end of the slide block 9 to receive the greater part of the length of the usual spiral spring 25 for pressing the loose roller toward the driving roller. The usual screw u for adjusting the pressure, passes through the closed rear end of the gulde e, and lts conical inner end bears against a deep countersink formed in the head of the thrust pin '11, the shank of the latter fitting within the rear end of the spiral spring t. With the omission of the projection Z and the flange 0, the construction of the bearing support for the upper ends or the spindles of the loose and driving rollers is an exact inverted counterpart of that just described torthe lower ends of said spindles. It will be evident that the cylindrical construction of the slide blocks and guides very much facilitates and cheapen's the construction, and provides a guiding surface all around the guide blocks; while the recessing of the guide blocks to receive the springs allows the guide blocks to be cor- V respondingly lengthened and a longer guiding surface to beobtained, while the point of application of the spring pressure is kept Well toward'the front of such guiding surface; all of which contribute toward keep- 7 ing the loose roller accurately parallel with rollers for a combing machine and means for driving guides at right angles to said rollers, each guide being provided with a tubular extension and a pair' of opposite openings in the side-wall thereof, pair of cylindrical bearings for thejournals of the driving roller, each of said bearings being fitted into a pair of said openings, a pair of cylindrical slides movable respectively lengthwise in said guides recessed in their rear end and provided at their lower ends with bearings, for the driven roller of said pair, springs fitting into the rear recesses of the slides bearing against the latter,-thrust pins bearing against the rear ends of said springs and adjusting screws -working through the rear ends of sand guides and bearing agalnst sa1d thrust plns', substantially as and for the purpose set forth. 0
