Be it known that I, GEORGE W. OAKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garrett, in the county of Somerset and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dinner-Fails, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to dinner pails, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide means of simple construction for keeping the food and liquid in the dinner pail hot for any required time.

Another object of the invention is to provide a dinner pail in which a compartment is formed to receive a heating element, like a lamp or a heated plate or brick, and means being provided if a lamp is used for conveying the heated gases over the liquid and between the liquid and the edibles to keep the same hot for an indefinitetime.

These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,

Figure 1 is a top plan view looking into a dinner pail made in accordance with this invention, the upper compartment being removed, Fig. 2 is a central vertical section through the same, Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the same, Fig. 4 is a detail horizontal section showing the manner of mounting the sliding door for the heating compartment, Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 6 is a detail horizontal sectional view of a portion of the dinner pail at a point opposite the heating chamber.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 v'designates the body portion of a dinner pail which may be oval in form, as shown, or rectangular or other shape. In the lower compartment 2 which usually contains the coffee or other liquid, is an inclined partition 3 at one end of the dinner pail, said partition having a flat upper portion 4. The

partition 3 extends across the dinner pail, as shown more clearly in Fig. 1. A lamp or other suitable heating element 5 is mounted in the compartment 6 and may be held in place by means of spring clips 7, said lamp being of any suitable type and to burn any suitable illuminating fluid or heating oil. The compartment 6 is closed by means of a door 8 provided with a suitable knob 9 and mounted to slide in a guide plate 10 con'- nected inside the walls of the dinner pail, as shown in Fig. 4.

A smoke tube 11 is secured to the outer surface of the dinner pail and is provided with an open upper end 12 while at the lower end the wall of the dinner pail is provided with an opening 13 which communicates with the tube 11.

A tube 14 extends around the sides and one end of the dinner pail inside thereof and said tube communicates with the chamber 6 through openings 15. At the opposite end of the dinner pail from the tube 11 is a similar outlet tube 16 which communicates with the tube 14 through the opening 17. Air holes 18 are provided underneath the chamber 6 for supplying air to the lamp or heating element 5. Dampers 19 provided each with a disk 20 which fits within the tube 14 and are provided with a handle 21 which can be turned to regulate the heat which it may be desired to admit to the tube 14.

From the foregoing it will be obvious that a dinner pail made in accordance with this invention is simple in construction, is not expensive to manufacture, and is reliable and elicient forits purpose. The lamp 5 may be lighted at any time required to heat the dinner, and the heat will 'extend through the tube 14 if desired, or the heat may be cut oft' by the use of the damper 19.

Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as delined in the claims.

What is claimed is 1. A dinner pail provided with a compartment at one end thereof for containing a lamp or other heating element, a flue communicating with said compartment, a tube extending from said compartment around the inner side of the dinner pail, and a flue communicating with said tube at one end and with the atmosphere at the opposite end, and dampers for said tube.
