GAS-RANGE.
To all whom it may concern. v
Be it known'that we, HARRY W. HUNTER and MARTIN W.LoNGrELLoW,citizens of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore City and State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Ink provements in Gas-Ranges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved gas range of the so-called cabinet type.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a cabinet range which will occupy a space no greater than that of the old and wellknown form of 'low down, double oven stove. A further object is to provide a relatively narrow gas range. having a maximum cooking capacity, equal to, or greater than that of the standard cabinet range. A further object is to provide a compact, full capacity cabinet range having burners located above the ovens,-said .ovens being elevated to a convenient-height to avoid the necessity of stooping on the part of the cook. A further object is to provide a cabinet range with burners located above the ovens, at a comparatively high elevation, but near the front edges of the top, so as to avoid the necessity of reaching back to the rear of the top. A further object is to provide a gas range of the character referred to in which a cooking top is placed above the oven, and provided with a heating space, and so shaped that the wasted heat from the burners passing under the bearing space, serves to maintain the same at sufliciently high temperature to be used for warming purposes. A further object is to provide a cooking top shaped to compel all overflow from the pots and kettles to run toward the center of the top, and then to pass through to a pan below the burners.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation illustrating the invention. Fig. 2 is an end view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail longitudinal sectional view of the cooking top. Fig. 4 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 5 is a transverse sec; tional view thereof.
Referring to the drawing, 10 designates a base of suitable construction, supported upon legs or standards 11, the rear wall 12 Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J 11 Application filed September 7,1915; Seria1No.49,284.
being attached thereto in any suitable or preferred manner. Secured to one end of said base isan endwall 13, and spaced therefrom is a partition wall 1 4', said walls 13 and 14 forming the end walls of the superposed broiling and baking ovens, 15 and 16, respectively, the broiling oven being closed by adoor 17, and] the baking oven being closed by a door 18.
Extending from the partition. wall 14 is a side extension 19, provided with suitable burner openings, and spaced below'said extension is a removable partition 20, which cooperates. with 1 the base 10, partition wall 14, and end Wall 21 to form a warming oven, which, is preferably open at the front. Burners 22 are interposed between the side extension 19 and the. partition 20, similar blllIlGIS 23 are provided for the ovens, and
burners 24 are interposed betweenzthe cooking top 25, and the under top or burner box 253? which is located over the top of the oven 16. Said burner box is provided with -aside and rear walls, being open at the front. The cooking top. is: spaced sufficiently from theunder top to accommodate the burners, and also to receive a pan 26, slidably supported on ribs 26 formed on the bottom of the burner box. All of the burners are supplied with gas from a pipe 27, connected to a suitable main, and extending across the front of the range in line with burners 22 and 23, said pipe being provided with an upwardly extending branch at one end of the range, having a lateral extension in line with the burners 24.
The cooking top 25 is provided at its rear portion with an inclined portion 28 forming a heating space, and the front and sides of said top are provided with beveled or sloped portions 28, saidheating space 28 and beveled portions 28 being sloped toward the center, to cause any or all overflow from pots or kettles to run toward the center of the top and to drain through the openings for the burners, on pan 26. The edges of the cooking top 25 are turned downward, and by reason of this arrangement the waste heat from burners 24 is caused to pass beneath the cooking top 25, and to pass through a flue 29 in said top, whereby said top is heated to a certain extent, and may be utilized for keeping various articles warm.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a very simple and convenient form of cabinet range is provided with all of the burners thereof located at, and controlled from the front, and in such manner that the cook may reach those over the oven without stooping. It will be readily perceived that the same combines all of the advantages of the low down range with that of the cabinet range without in any manner sacrificing capacity.
Having thus explained the nature of our invention and described an operative manner of constructing and using the same, although without attempting to set forth all of the forms in which it may be made, or all of the forms of its use, what we claim is 1. An improved gas range comprising a body provided with superposed baking and broiling ovens, a cooking top located above the uppermost oven and spaced therefrom, said cooking top being provided with inwardly beveled peripheral portions and a heating portion, burners located in the space between said cooking top and the ovens.
2. An improved gas range comprising a body provided with superposed baking and broiling ovens, a cooking top located above the uppermost oven and spaced therefrom, said cooking top being provided at its rear portion with an inclined imperforate heating portion, and at its side and front edges with beveled portions sloped toward the center of said top, and burners located in the space between said cooking top and the ovens.
3. An improved gas range comprising a body provided with superposed baking and broiling ovens, a partition wall forming end walls for said oven, a cooking top located above the uppermost oven and spaced there from, said cooking top being provided with inwardly beveled peripheral portions and a heating portion, a side extension projecting from said partition wall and provided with burners, burners for said ovens, and burners located in the space between said cooking top and the ovens.
4:. An improved gas range comprising a body provided with superposed baking and broiling ovens, a partition wall forming end walls for said oven, a cooking top located above the uppermost oven and spaced therefrom, said cooking top being provided with inwardly beveled peripheral portions and a heating portion, a side extension projecting from said partition wall and provided with burners, a warming oven coinciding with said side extension and located below said burners, burners for said baking and broiling ovens, and burners located in the space between said cooking top and the ovens.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
